Thanks all!!! I REALLY appreciate all your support! It makes me smile to see all these great wishes!
So I ran it. It was great, I beat my personal best by (officially 22 seconds) 25 seconds (I was 3 seconds back from the starting line, but I kept my own time). I could have done a lot better but I had no clue about the course and It was packed at the beginning so I had to use some extra juice in the beginning to get out ahead of a lot of slowpokes (nothing wrong with that, but really, if you know your gonna run slow, why not start further back so people don't have to weave all day?). My final time was 21:36 and a 6:57 pace (about 7 seconds faster then my normal pace).
It was funny, I pass mile 1 and the guy yells out 6:33 and I'm like, uh oh, I'm gonna be dead at the end if I keep this pace so I slowed down a bit. At mile 2 the guy yells out 14:53 and Im like, aww man! I slowed down TOO much, so at the end I had a lot of juice left, but since I didn't know it was the end till I rounded the last corner and saw the finish like 200 yards ahead it was too late, but I really kicked hard anyway and passed like 8 people, that was fun. My wife was like "Wow! you were flat out sprinting at the end." I guess I had more juice left then I thought.
ON the upside, I had a Max HR of 95% and an average of 85% and that includes the first 3 minutes of bobing and weaving around people. I stopped my HRM after 6 minutes of recovery and had burned (in about 28 minutes) 520 calories. Nice! My legs are still my limiting characteristic though. I gotta work on that. They were burning a little at the end, dunno why, I guess I'm still not their yet!
NEXT WEEK, First Baseball Game of the year! I guess my wife said she couldn't get any pictures of me finishing because by the time she saw me I was already past her, but I have a few from before the race, I'll try to get those posted if anyone wants to see em.
Now I'm gonna shower and veg. for a bit.
thanks again all!
