Hello all :-)
I'm joining a gym at the weekend and have decided to give Stronglifts 5x5 a go. (excited much)
I have this question and wondered if someone could please help, for reshaping the muscle I already have do I eat at a deficit and not eat back calories or just eat at maintenance and not eat back calories burnt?
Thanks for reading :-)

You will be fine eating at a deficit. If you are a beginning to weight training, you will see some muscle mass added in the form of water and glycogen stores being increased within your muscles. Eventually you will need to switch to maintenance or above to build additional muscle.0

Do you have more fat you'd like to lose? If yes, small deficit, plenty of protein.0

Ohh thank you for you help :-)
I am a total beginner to lifting. But have been stuck in the cardio thing for mths.
Time to mix it up me thinks.
I do have some fat to lose yes.

Your plan is perfect. Do SL and eat at a deficit.0 -

Start with low weights and work on form until you get it right. Have fun and good luck!0

Thank you BusyLady
I've heard it maybe just worth just using the bar with no weights till i get my form correct is that right?
If it is an olympic bar as they are heavier than standard bars.0 -
Yes, start with an empty bar and go up from there. With SL, standard is you add 5lbs each session except for deadlifts which is 10lbs. There is an application that lets you track the workouts and will increase the weight accordingly.
Also, for squats, if you are not used to doing them, you might wanna try doing them without any weight to get the basic of the movement. Now I know this will sound silly but do that home and add a broom as the bar to get used to the movement with a ''bar'' on your shoulders.
Also, Mehdi has plenty of form videos on youtube if you just search Stronglifts
Good luck! :flowerforyou:0 -
The broom thing sounds like great advice to me, any help to get this right is appreciated.
The deficit thing I'm still unsure about though, I was thinking maybe not eating back the strength training calories back but continue to eat the cardio back.
I guess this will be trail and error for a couple of mths.
