Hi everyone! I try to workout 6 days a week and I alternate strength training and cardio workouts every other day. On Strength training days I lift weights and take a body sculpting class and after each workout I have a whey protein shake or have a protein bar or something. On my cardio days I do activities such as running, eliptical, cycling, etc. My question is..Should I still drink my protein shake or have a protein bar on the days I only do cardio? I have not been doing this because I thought protein was only good for after lifting or strength training but now I am questioning it as I have read a couple different articles online saying I should still have my protein.

I am in the exact same boat as you, and also really wanting an answer to this...0

I fit my protein smoothie into my calories for the day, regardless if I did strength or not.. My trainer told me to up my protein intake every day so I do that with the smoothie. The only difference is that during strength days I add soy milk and oats on the smoothie, while on rest/cardio day I do it only with grapefruit juice and strawberries (mostly because I don't feel the need for those extra carbs as when I'm out of the gym).0

Protein intake goals should be met every day, as muscle repair still happens on your non-lifting days. Maybe someone more qualified can comment on whether or not timing is important on non-lifting days, but I imagine it's not a big deal as long as you're generally getting enough in.0

You want to take in a simple Carb right after work out (piece of fruit works) and make sure your protein intake is not below .08-1 Gram per lb of body weight per day, Whey protein works after work out because body absorbs quickly.
You want Casein protein, at night before bed, so your body can use to repair and build muscle.0 -
I have been taking a whey protein shake(allmax) pretty much everyday after my workout regardless whether it's lift or cardio day. It hits me with 27g right away so I guess I'm gonna keep doing this. I sometimes add a precook egg white or 2 to my breakfast also and sometimes add some oat mixture in with my shake. I'm hoping I'm doing this right! Thanks for the help. Happy Halloween ????0
