Workout help

Is there anywhere where I can get an example workout for the gym? Or to do weights/strength training at home with dumbbells? I was thinking of doing 3 days weights/strength and 2 days cardio? I go to a small gym where there isn't much weight equipment - there are weights etc but not many machines so I wondered if there's something I can do at home and save me going to the gym if I can do it at home anyway? I would then go to the gym to do my cardio.
Hope that makes sense!! I just struggle because I don't really know what I need to be doing at the gym for it to be effective.

This website has some links that may be of some help. Under "Beginner Workouts" ... http://exercise.about.com/cs/exbeginners/a/exforbeginners.htm
I would encourage trying to incorporate four types of lifts, and you can find a lot of variations of these online. But they are the squat, deadlift, bench/chest press, and overhead press. These are fundamental compound exercises that work a lot of muscles in your body, and increase strength. You can add isolation exercises like bicep curls, tricep dips, sit-ups/crunches, etc. if you'd like. But focus on the big four to start because you will still activate muscles in the biceps, triceps, abs as well.
Good luck! Take progress pictures and measurements.0 -
I started with Nerd Fitness about a year ago. I loved their beginner work out. I'm doing stronglifts 5X5 now.

Wow, thank you so much for this!! I can see lots of info that I will look through later! I'd much rather do weight training than cardio as cardio bores me so any help is greatly appreciated0
