Rest Days questions...

Hello everyone! I am not new here but I have not been very consistent with exercise. This month I have mapped out what I am going to do day by day to see if having it written down will help me stay motivated and keep me accountable. My question is how many days a week do you usually schedule a rest day? Right now I have scheduled two rest days a week and 2 weeks that have 3 rest days (only because I have things going on those weeks and know that I will not have time to work out). Before anyone says "listen to your body and rest when it needs it"...yea I got that. I fully understand that if my body is too sore than I need to rest it and allow it to heal.

Any help would be appreciated!

I swim 3 days a week in the morning before work. Mon, Wed & Fri. It means getting up a extra hr before hand but i find it easier to do that than spend a day at work looking a magical tube with pixies that make things move then have to go and DO some exercise especially now the dark nights are drawing in over here.

I might swim on the weekend, but in truth i spend more time sitting in the sauna :)

That's a difficult question to answer, I think you are supposed to have a full day off between exercise ( but don't quite me on that) although gentle exercise is OK. It depends on what type of exercise you are doing, how intense it is, how long each session is etc Listening to your body is really important but it not just about sore muscles there can be other clues that you need a rest such as being really grumpy and irritable after exercising or poorer performance during exercise. Try the plan you have decided for a while and see how you get on with it, you can always adjust it, I have found that excercise plans have to be tweaked regularly anyway
