I am going to be doing Amy Dixon's Breathless Body along with my regular workouts in November. Anyone interested in doing this? I have seen no suggested timing of the workouts so my goal is to do it 12 times for the month.

Hi, I've been doing her Breathless workouts for a few weeks. I've tried both of her tabata workouts but I like the first more. I can't do it more than 3 times a week so that would be workable. I definitely get a workout but I change a couple of them so they are easier on my knees. A couple of them, I find level one too easy but others hard on them so I do another exercise very intensely. I wrote her about that and she said it was a great idea, just go "breathless" do your best and it will grow with you. That's what is great about it, months from now (although she might have a new one) you can incorporate other exercise into the time slots She is so encouraging but not like other instructors, too easy or too "drill sergeant". I really like her style.0

Hi Debra-My intention was to start tonight but tomorrow it will have to be, or today I guess since midnight has come and gone. I will check in on this post after a couple workouts.

Hi, I took a walk/jog today because it was such a beautiful fall day and my new sneakers came in the mail..: ) Tomorrow though I have Amy penciled in for the morning.
She has 3 new DVD's coming out either later this year or early next year according to her web site...I hope for Xmas myself. I don't think a lot of people have heard of her yet, but they will.0 -
I did the workout for the first time yesterday. I had watched it through last week and decided to do all drills at level one to start and then move up accordingly. Due to a lack of time allowed, I only completed 5 or 6 of the drills. I felt like I got a great workout though and could have done all 8 had time allowed. However..today I am very sore! Who would have thought. I will do the workout again tomorrow and surely have time to complete it all. I am just amazed though at how sore I am. I have done Jillian and Jackie and Sean T .... But this one worked some stuff that evidently was missed lately. Can't wait to move forward with it.0

Yes, I don't don't do it 2 days in a row because I cramped when I tried that once...but that might have been partly on my not drinking enough water...she stretches you out well later
I mix up the levels but like you, started slow.. and for the lunge one, do an oblique twist quickly I learned from other DVD's...it keeps my heart rate up and easier on my knees.
I don't know if Jillian could do this DVD since she jokes she can't do her others at times....that is why she talks so much and "instructs" though them. lol I would like to see her do a tabata-style one in the future though.
Keep up the good work, I know you will see results with this workout. I will do it again Tuesday or Wednesday since I did it Sunday.0 -

I have this video and have done parts of it. I only got it recently. my problem with it is... isn't the point of tabata that you can cut down on the time of your workout? that you can get a complete workout done in a short period of time? these breathless body videos go ON and ON and ON. I do realize that you can choose which ones you want to do, but from this thread, I see that is not what most people do. and it certainly isn't how she instructs (the way she keeps talking on the video, you are led to think you are supposed to be doing all 8 along with her and her helpers).0

You can, but you don't have too...it's about 40 minutes or so, but since it's more tabata-style...not true tabata, which most aren't, she gives you options. You really can do less, 30 minutes would be fine, but at my age, I don't think I'd lose weight doing just 4 or 5 minutes...,most people who do the short tabata sessions online, they say they tack them on to other exercise sessions.
I use it as a change of pace, an endurance exercise, more HIIT training than true tabata.0 -
Took time tonight and got to do the whole Breathless workout. I do really like it. From start to finish I think it took me about 60 minutes but I marched through her intro because I don't know how to skip it. I normally do shorter workouts but feel the need to do them every evening and I am targeting this 3-4 evenings a week. The 2 times I only got to do 4-6 of the drills I still felt I got a great workout. My HRM blipped on me so not sure of the burn but figuring from the other workout evenings and what it recorded tonight I am guessing about a 255 cal burn but probably a bit more. I am doing all the drills at level one this week, probably bump some up next week. Love it!0
-
I fast forward the intro or hit the arrow on my remote that skips over each segment....I do warm up but not quite as long as she does...I love the cooldown though.
I spend 50 or so minutes if I do the cool down. and I've done 300-350 average calories with my HRM if I do different levels. I mix it up, sometimes changing with each of the drills...level 2 to start the boxing drill...3 times, then level 3 for 4 and 5 back to 2 for the rest...depends on my day and energy.
The third one coming out looks like longer segments and longer rest....but I will have to work up to that. ; )
She is so encouraging though...no pressure...little pushes...makes me want to finish.0 -
Started my second week of Breathless today. Inserted a few of the level 2 moves but not a lot. Kinda took it east, already have very sore legs from run yesterday. I really think some of the higher level moves will be easier for me than the lower ones.0
-
I did most of it last night, was running short on time...I find some of the moves like the "boxer lunge" not hard which is level 3 but I get tired so I'll do the punches with Amy in between. There is no way I'll be air born the way, I think it's Sarah that does level 3, is ever though. lol
Don't be afraid to mix it up, you can do a higher level for one or two of the 8 times...I mix it up all the time, depends on my energy that day and if my knees are hurting. I never do the lunge, I'd rather do an oblique twist I did on a Jillian DVD than just do the move slowly like level one...I feel it keeps my heart rate up better but doesn't tax my knees.
Have fun with it...as much as you can.0 -
I did lots of level two moves mixed in with the level one. Did level 3 for a few of the drills but not a large percent overall. Still really enjoying it and tonight got a 320 calorie burn for my hour.0

I am going to be doing Amy Dixon's Breathless Body
Ya know, necrophilia is generally frowned upon...0 -
lol...
I am going to do it tonight, hopefully the entire DVD...I have to pick my daughter up at the train station at 9, so I will try to plan it well.
I think it's fun to switch levels, and it keeps the body/muscles guessing, it's not the same routine every time. I'm a big believer in not doing the same workout all the time, even running, when I ran a lot years ago, I mixed it up a little, hills, intervals, to keep it fresh.
Keep up the good work, can't wait to preview her new one next month and I want to preview her new kettleball one coming out for Xmas....never did that type of workout before.0 -
lol - I thought that sounded a bit off after I typed it. But you just want to watch.0
-
You can see a preview of her BB3 on her website, definitely will take me some time to work up to the moves there, but it's nice to have a challenge too.

I hope you are still enjoying the workout. I did it today after a break and it felt good....will order her new one for Xmas. My HRM said 330, which I felt was good for me.0

I have struggled finding time for my evening workout this week. Had some evenings set aside for personal stuff and then Friday became deer camp at my house. Shame on me. But tomorrow starts a new week and I hope to do better. I have the new one on my wish list at Amazon. Will probably do something different in December and then start that as my January evening challenge. I do really like her and her workout style. The hour long hurts me getting started though.0
-
I did one full workout the last few days, but probably can only break it up over the holidays...sometimes I just do 3 sets after a different kind of workout to just "add a little"Oomph" to the set. It is a long workout, it's set up to do the whole thing but you don't have too..many people do tabata sets in a much shorter time.
Her new one seems like a killer but I did eye the "level one" person in the clip and that always seemed doable. Her kettleball I'm not sure, I'm not used to it and it seems pretty advanced so I might pass on that.0 -
I am trying a Michelle Dozois video workout for December. I change each month but will cut back to Amy in a few months. The length of the workout was a problem for me, not doing it, but fitting it in to the schedule. Thanks for being here for me during November. do you do the Michelle Dozois videos ever? It would be great if you would join me. Otherwise I will give you a shout in a few months when I do Amy again.0

I am just about to do a Power 90 one...when I finish it later tonight , I will look it up. Definitely need some new things for the winter.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will get back to you.0 -
I went on collage video, there are so many, 2 caught my eye, a 10 minute one and a longer advanced one, but I was too tired to decide...what are you using?0
-
I am doing the slim, strong, sexy body one. It has two 30 minute workouts. One upper body and core and one lower body and core. It is not a high calorie burn, more strength. I really liked the upper body one but did the lower body one last night and it was kind of yoga-y for me. Might like it better after doing it a few times and learning the moves. I did like the first half of it till you went to the mat.
I really like the Jackie Warner videos-they are my favorite I think. But I change my evening video every month to keep from getting burnt out.0 -
I just checked out Jackie Warner...her power circuit...I might order that in the near future. She gave a good workout! Now I have to decide on that or Michelle's aero-tone. We will see. : ) My breathless body from amazon is delayed until Jan 2 they say. so I will need something else in-between. I think by the time it comes, I'll be ready again to do it again. I did half the other day because of time..it is a long dvd.0
-
I have Jackie's Extreme Timesaver, 30 Day Fast Start, One-on-one, Power Circuit and Crunch free extreme abs. Extreme Timesaver and 30 Day I really like. I have not done the Power Circuit(it is still sealed) and I am not sure I have done the One on One yet. if you get one of those and want to support each other through it - I could switch from Michelle mid-month. I have never done that but don't see that it would hurt any thing. I also have Jillian's No more trouble zones, Michelle's Cardo Strength remix, Denise Austin Shrink Belly Fat, and Insanity Check that I have not done yet.0
-
That's a nice group..I have No More Trouble Zones and I will do that minus a couple of sessions after work today...I have a meeting after work wont have time or energy to do aerobics and I need to tone more now...after 50 pounds, I feel great but I see places that need to be toned and not shrink so much.
I bought an Amy Dixon Give me 10 that has ab moves with Pilates, yoga, exercise ball and just mat...I do the Pilates and ball sessions the most...just can't get into yoga moves although it will improve my balance if I stick with it.
For my body, I find mixing it up helps a lot. When I started this journey this year, I had 30DS and another "walking" type dvd...but then things stalled...so I got Biggest Loser Last Chance workout -circuit training, 30 minutes(which I still like) and a Power 90 cardio one from Amazon. I lost a bit more...and I find if I rotate a bit, it helps me not get too tired of a DVD but that is a personal thing..I know many people who just do a Jillian DVD for 2 months or Cathe.
I want to look at collagevideo again and look at the clips again and then check out the cheapest price I can get. I appreciate all the tips.
No matter what, you have my support...it's a life style change that takes some work to keep up...seems we both lost the same amount of weight....good for us! ; )0
