No matter how I try I can't eat enough calories and protein, when I up either of these the fat and carbs go up too, so I am fighting a losing battle. Help please.

A lot may be in the types of foods you're eating: I'm always over my protein, but that's a good thing for me . Go through your foods and maybe even take a few copies of your food diary to a nutritionist to re-evaluate & they may be able to get you on track. And don't think of it as a losing battle - you're here & doing something about your lifestyle change, to me, that is a move in the winning battle :flowerforyou:0

Lean meat and Tofu are extremely high in protein with only a little bit of fat and next to no carbs.0

Small apple and some almonds!0

100 cal snacks- banana, ~15 pretzels, handful of nuts, nectarine (~60 cals), vita muffin vita tops, yogurt, moz. cheeze stick, etc. I wouldn't worry about going over on your protein. Protein is wonderful for us. And I wouldn't concentrate on the sugars MFP adds from fruit. Natural sugars are ok. It's the added sugars we need to watch out for. Good luck!0

apples are good, and I also like low fat pretzels, but they are high in sodium.0

Fruit! Fruit! Fruit!0

Lean meats, low fat cottage cheese, low fat greek yogurt, egg whites. Berries are lower in carbs than most fruits.0

First off, I had a quick look through your food diary, and I'm surprised to see that your daily calorie goal is 1000... did MFP set that for you? It's hard to get proper nutrition with a daily intake of less than 1200, so MFP usually won't set the goal that low. There's more to weight loss than just eating less--in fact, at that level of calories you might start gaining weight. I also noticed that you use meal replacement bars pretty frequently--I know they're easy (no prep, no refrigeration, no reheating), but they're nowhere near as good for you as a nice salad with some lean protein like tuna or grilled chicken. They're also usually high in carbs compared to fat and protein, which could be a reason why you're having no problem with your carb goal but a hard time with protein. Sorry, I realize this is off topic, but I just wanted to point it out.
For protein-rich 100-cal snacks, I usually go for fat-free yogurt or a small amount of tuna or cheese (the cheese and yogurt are especially good because they'll give you a calcium boost). Fruit is also a good choice because, as others have mentioned, the sugar from fruit isn't really the same as table sugar, it's easier for the body to use and won't spike your blood sugar and leave you with cravings.0 -
I am new to this forum but not to gaining and losing weight. I will drink muscle milk light, I tried it but have heard a lot of good things about the product. Also egg whites from eggology are high protein low calorie. But 1200 calories is difficult enough to maintain, 1000 is going to cause you to gain weight0

Low fat dairy string cheese greek yogurt ect, raw nuts, fresh fruits fresh veggies, lean meat .... NOTHING PROCESSED. Those 100 cal snack pack are CRAP with no nutrition stay away. Heck I just had 16oz watermelon and it was just over 100 calories, very satisfying and filling0

Im just the opposite on the protein and always go over. Im hoping that isnt a bad thing. I always go over on the sugar too but MOST of the time thats fruit and fruit juice so Im hoping thats not to detrimental either. My diary is public if anyone wants to take a look and advise...just remember this is my first week and I goofed bad with that darn "mini" mountain dew! That wont happen again!
I'll always remember that little 12 oz Mountain Dew as my first lesson in reading a label BEFORE you consume! LOL!0 -
Buy a tub of greek yogurt. It's 24g of protein per serving, 110 calories, and no fat! Just add some fruit, granola, and you are set for a delicious and healthy snack around 100 calories.0

I don't know if you set your carbs that low but that is your problem. Either you set the carbs at 40-60% of your diet or make a commitment to a low carb lifestyle. Notice I said lifestyle not diet because once you start eating a lot of carbs again you'll gain weight. There are several books about low carb eating and some people here on MFP that can help you in determining if it's a lifestyle for you.0

Hey,
Fruits, veggies, lean meats, fat free yogurts are all low in carbs and fat but have really good proteins. Fat free pretzels and kashi cereals are good in proteins and you can measure out 100 calories and package for on the run snacks; even cheerios. Be very careful when buying these that say 100 calories because the fat and carbs as well as sodium is really high. If you exceed sodium then just up your water intake to flush your system from excess amounts. Some protein bars are good but be careful with those too. God Bless, brenda :flowerforyou:0
