I am new to this site, and I was wondering what the benefits are to inviting friends?

I think having friends to help support you, motivate, and share ideas and challenges with is a wonderful thing. It really helps me to stay on track. I believe if a person has a support system then they can accomplish a lot more than what they may set out to accomplish!

I haven't invited any friends from outside MFP to join, partly because most of them aren't concerned about what they eat (I'm in the 20-something crowd right now, so for most of my friends food isn't priority #1) and the ones that are are on programs that use points rather than calories. I've found a lot of support from like-minded MFP people, so I'd highly recommend making friends here.

    Welcome!

I've never had any on here. Friends are always good to have.

I love having "friends" on here!! They provide tons of support and encouragement! For me, having people looking at my exercise, food, and weight loss gives me a sense of accountability. Like, I want to be good because people are watching!! Everyone I have met on here has been super nice and great! I don't have my regular friends on here because I get very self-conscious in front of them. But I know the people on here are in the same boat as me and will not judge me! Feel free to add me if you decide on having friends :)

Its a great way to communicate with people who have the same interests (aside from diet and exericse) and using the Friend feature you can "talk" without getting bogged down in lengthy posts trying to keep up with what your "friend" is doing.

They will lift your spirits when you are down, they understand your pain/struggles, if you have a bad week no one will chastise you for it - they tell you this is a new week. It is a great support system!

Friends help with accountability, too. Especially if they are your friends in real life as well as on here...
