New to MFP, new to board

I am new to using this app. I have been using it since Monday. I'm 5'2", 156lbs and want to get fit, healthy and drop about 30lbs. I'm not physically fit at all and struggling with working out. I have discovered a BootCamp that I am doing three times a week and LOVE it so far. It's kicking my butt, but I really enjoy it. I'm also trying a Couch 2 5K app to try to start running. I've never been a runner before so this is not something easy for me.

Anyway, MFP has me at 1200 calories per day. The first 2 days on it, I barely hit 1000 and wasn't starving myself. Yesterday, I went over by 20 calories and today I'm on track to be right at 1200 I think. My concern is two fold. 1) I doubt I'm eating enough and 2) I know I'm not eating the right foods. I'm looking forward to learning more about MFP, healthy eating and fitness along this journey.

    You aren't eating enough.
Maybe you set your goal a bit high. try half a pound a week.
Also eat back those exercise calories.
You won't be able to keep up an intensive workout routine if you're under-eating.

If you only have 30lb to lose, you might want to set your goals to 0.5lb a week. And with the training you're doing - make sure your activity is set to lightly active at the very least. I'd estimate about 1500+ for that.

If you REALLY want to go the 1200 route, then at least eat the exercise cals back, so that you NET 1200 rather than just eat 1200.

    Good luck!
  • Thank you for the feedback so far! I don't really want to 1200, but I want to make sure I'm eating the right foods. I notice that my carbs are high each day, so obviously I need to cutback on those. I'll check the settings mentioned.

Thank you!!! Love hearing from others, helps me and hopefully will help you too.
