My first 5k is a week from tomorrow.
I am super excited and nervous
I know I can walk it with no issues but I suck at running.
My goal is to run part of it and finish under 45 minutes.

Have you completed a 5k or want to?
What was your time?
Was it for a charity?

Mine is represented in my picture!

My avatar is from my first 5K. Just like you, my goal was to do it in under 45 minutes. I, too, suck at running. I did maybe half "running" and half walking and finished in 38? minutes. It was in 2012 and I honestly can't remember my exact time.

It was so nerve-wracking but so fun! You will have a blast! It doesn't matter one bit how fast you go. I highly recommend all of John Bingham's books but particularly "No Need for Speed" about "adult-onset athletes".

I continued to enter 5Ks and found that running did amazing things for my weight and body composition. Good luck to you! Have a great time!

I did a full 5k in 36 minutes last month and then another 5k at half walking pace, half running and did it in 40 minutes. 5ks are a lot of fun, hanging out with a bunch of people who are fit or who want to be is pretty inspirational.

I did my first 5k a few years ago for Cancer Research UK, I didn't train for it at all, just did it. Raised a nice amount for charity.

My only 5k was last Thursday. Got so excited and winded in first half mile, because I did not pay attention to my pace at first. Settled down from a 10 min first mile to end at a 33:03. I was excited to actually run/jog the whole way though. Its all about having fun and getting into shape!

I did my first last summer, had no idea what I was doing, and clocked in at just under 30 mins. Like, 29 and change. It was INCREDIBLY FUN running surrounded by all these like-minded folks and having total strangers cheer me on.

You're gonna have a ball, it's worlds different from training and running alone!
  • I love the 5k. I average a 10 minute mile during the run but I slow it down during my weekly workouts to about 11 m/m.

I ran a 10k 2 years ago at 1hr 6 min. It killed me and haven't tried running that distance again.
  • That is awesome! You should be proud doing the 5K for a noble charity. I've done 2 for children's cancer research and want to keep doing more. Unfortunately broke my leg in July..but I will run this spring. Dont worry about your time just enjoy. Once you complete one you will want to do another and your time will improve. Just keep running and walking at your pace! Good luck!!

I have done some on the c25k.
I did this for charity and to get my first 5k done.
I do a lot of cardio but am not a major fan of running.
and to be honest... I feel weird running at the gym because I always wonder if everyone is laughing!

I will do my best and I give my credit for trying!

I completed my first 5k in May...finished in 41:17 with a combination of run walk. This past weekend I completed my second 5k. It wasn't timed (color me rad) but I ran the whole thing!!! This is huge for me as I'm battling knee injuries my high school. The important thing is to pace yourself, run outside if you haven't already (treadmill running is different) and have a blast!
