How do you stay motivated?

I've realized after many years of trying that annual goals, even monthly goal setting doesn't work for me...If the end is too far away I end up slacking off before I even get close to my goals!! The past couple of months I've been setting myself weekly goals, and it seems to be working, it's short enough so I can stay focussed, but still enough time to see some improvement. How do you stay motivated?

Taking pictures help to see the changes, whether the scales moves or not. Plus just feeling great from exercising makes me look forward to working out. And I do like 2-3 short intense workouts to keep from getting bored, seems to work for me!
  • What helps me is weighing every day. I know this is controversial but for me, it keeps me from shoving things into my mouth as I will have to face the scale in the morning. I have to be able to see a 1-3 lb increase due to water weight but I watch the trend over time. I had maintained for 6 months and stopped the routine of weighing and logging on MFP only to gain back 10 lbs. Not sure if this will work for you but it keeps me motivated and honest

Weekly goals would have made me quit ages go, personally... you don't lose weight every week. I look at the big picture, personally... I want to look good (maybe not great, that's not happening, but good enough, lol) and most of my belly to be gone. Mostly, I don't want to end up obese again. That seems to be enough.
