Are any of you using the Tabata Protocol, or workouts with the elliptical trainer? I am interested in starting because I'm going to have to ease off of my Crossfit training for a few weeks. (Busted Knee) If any of you have tried the Tabata workout please give me tips, and any of your experiences.

Thanks

sorry to hear about your knee! :( Seriously?!!
I'm not sure if elliptical tabata will work - you may want to look into swimming - easier on the knees. Also - shadow boxing!

You can do tabata' with just about any exercise really, 20 seconds high intensity then a 10 second rest. I like to do them on the bike, as sprints in the park and with squats, but i've done them with lunges, treadmill, jump squats, jump rope, football runs..it goes on and on.....lol

Like gymrat suggested - 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off for a total of 8 minutes.
I've done it on the rower, on the elliptical, skipping, running... but these all engage your knee! I'd be wary and look for options.

Hey - can you ask one of your XFit trainers if they can modify some of the WOD's for you - when I broke my toe they gave me options.

I talked to my trainers this AM, and I talked with my therapist. I am actually going to stay with XFit and modify.  Basically the therapist thinks that I need to remain active, and only cut out extreme knee pounding. I am going to do some water aerobic stuff :grumble: :grumble: (Blah-blah..I don't care to be in the pool, but I'll try it), some elliptical training and stay with modified XFit. I am really happy I don't have to leave the gym totally, it has been a huge part of my weight loss success, plus I just love my gym buddies.

I got it drained and cortisone added Thursday, so I feel like a new woman now. I just have to remember to put that blasted brace on when I'm moving around! :grumble: :grumble: Thanks for the responses. Have a great weekend!!

YAY - glad to hear you can still get it done! I know you're not crazy about the water athletic stuff - but you can burn some crazy calories!
