I have been eating between 1200 and 1300 for ten months. I don't do a lot of exercising, just walking a few times a week

Go to Search (above on right) type in 1200 and you can spend the rest of the week reading about 1200 calorie diets.

I eat between 1200 and 1350, and I'm 5'8", 44 years old, and currently 139 pounds. I don't do any exercise at all, it's boring.

    I'm 47years old
    5'7"
    178#s.

When I stick to my 1200 calories, I lose weight at a regular pace. I've lost 8#s in 3 weeks. I'm not very active--just walk a little each day. My goal is 135#s. 1200 calories is okay for me right now. I did have to find some low calorie, filling foods to help stick to the 1200 limit. (string cheese, veggies, grapefruit, homemade yogurt pops) If you're really hungry, you may not have a good balance of carbs/fats/proteins. I do try to keep mine balanced, but I allow treats or I'd never stick to this.

I figure when I stop losing regularly, I'll step up the exercise a bit. If I step up the exercise, I may need more calories. I expect I'd be hungrier then.

    Good Luck :flowerforyou:

When I first started here I was 160 lbs and I am 4'11". I lasted about a month on 1200 calories. I lost weight but I was hungry. I did some reading and I switched to the TDEE method, upped my calories and was no longer hungry and still losing. I lost the bulk of my weight this way.

I switched back to the MFP method(eating back my exercise cals) when I got down to my last 10-15 lbs. My daily target now without exercise is 1320 but I always NET over 1200. When I exercise, I end up consuming at least 1500-1600. Still happily losing :)

I'm 45, 5'8", currently 135-139 lbs, depending on the day (started at 162 lbs).

I've had my best success losing the weight/fat/inches eating 1800-2000 cals a day. I exercise 5-6 days a week, an hour or less per day. I also do the TDEE method and I love it - going steady with it for nearly two years now, keeping the weight off and continuing to lose fat, keep my lean muscle, and have pretty much changed my lifestyle for good. There is no more stopping and starting or point where I will stop eating this way and go back to something else - this is a sustainable way for me to eat, be healthy and enjoy life.

    I'm32 years old, 5'6, 118lbs, started at 135, workout about 4-5 times a week, 30 mins......lost 17lbs at about 1800 a day. So you'll lose weight at 1200, but it's not very fun.

I eat between 1200 and 1350 calories each day, and it's plenty "fun"—though of course I don't really view food as "entertainment".
  • 1200 is the absolute minimum that a typical person should have to keep their body functioning. It will help you lose weight but if you talk to most professionals they'll be concerned for you, I'd definitely reach for 1200 min a day and maybe don't go past 1400. I know I'm 5'7" and currently weigh about 200, I told a counselor about my calorie goals and she became extremely worrisome because according to calculations, someone with my body size would need about 17-1800 calories to just maintain basic body functions. Theres a lot of conflicting information, just try to find something that works for you and stick to it.

Then I guess you're eating the wrong foods.

27 years old, 5'3', 168 lbs, eat about 1200 NET calories/day -- I eat back half of my exercise calories. I work out 4 days/week with both strength training and cardio.

I've lost 16 pounds in the last month eating 1200 calories/day. It works. I don't feel deprived or like I'm "starving". If I do feel like I'm starting to have cravings or feel myself getting very hungry I will let myself eat at a maintenance level for the day -- 1600-1800 calories, and I do this about once a week. This really helps me stay on track. Feel free to add me if you like and you can check out my diary.

I generally eat 1,159 to 1,300 calories a day. I took a month or so "off"--not overeating but just maintaining, so higher calorie intake.

I'm 59, and since Dec. 31 have lost 49 pounds. Feeling so much healthier and more energetic. I don't do tons of exercise, but I walk a couple of miles almost every day, do yoga, some strength straining and hike at least once a week. Still have 29 pounds to go.
