focus...

I am watching The Biggest Loser this season, after passing on it the past few years. I just thought it was getting too gimmicky -- always bigger and bigger people. And so intense. None of it made sense to me because it seemed like what they were putting these morbidly obese people through were all wrong and dangerous. I know, they were monitored etc. And I know it's a tv show, so they want it to be intense and dramatic. But I started watching the show hoping for a little insight, or advice. So anyway, I stopped watching when it because all about the drama and competition etc.
But I gave it a shot this season and it seems to be a little better. They don't seem to be trying to get 'the biggest person ever' on the show. And it's only an hour, which helps me a lot.
I just wonder though, how we can try and get that same focus, here at home. I can't take a month off and just think about myself, exercise, diet and my weight. But I need to try and get as much of that focus on myself as I can.
Sometimes I think it's better to not focus on yourself. I often think too many people are too self absorbed. But I do think you can do this in a good way. To put yourself and your health first is different than putting your self and your life above , or more important , that everyone elses.
I'm not more important than everyone else. But it's ok to be important enough to myself to take the best care of myself, that I can. For me, and for my family and friends.
So anyway, I am really trying to find a way to take my health seriously enough to make some real changes. I will not get caught up in anyone else's drama. My focus is going inward. I'm going to take care of my family, do my job well, and take care of myself too. All the other nonsense that gets thrown at me is going to be rejected.
I can't isolate myself, or go to the Biggest Loser resort and be with people who have the same focus as me. But I can control what I let in, and not let that stuff in that takes my mind off of what's important.
I don't know if this makes sense to anyone, but it helps me to stay focused if I share my thoughts.

I am a 31 year old, stay at home mom of 4. After a health scare in April (cholesterol meds), I changed my life. There is no competition here. Just me wanting to be healthy. And that's all it takes. You wanting to be better for you.0

For me it was a couple of things:
1. My doctor wanted to put me on medications that I DID NOT want nor that I can afford. I told him that I could do this. His reply, "Yes, honey but your not!" OUCH!! I told him...."Give me six months. I know i can do this." In six months I came back and had lost 50 pounds. I had set a goal to lose 50 pounds before I turned 50....I DID IT!! He was so impressed he said he wished all his patients would do the same.
2. I have a special needs son that will need me for the rest of his life. I won't ever have the "empty nest" feelings. I don't have an option to get my SH** together or not....I HAVE TO!! He is my 'WHY'!! He keeps me focused!! I have to stay healthy and fit for him!!
So, maybe you need to find your "WHY".0 -
I am a stay at home mom of 2. My littles are 9 and 2 and Husband works 100 hours a week so I take care of everything.
There is plenty to distract me from anything. I swear that motherhood has given me ADD. It's hard to focus for more than 15 minutes. I sit down to "rest" for 30 minutes (read, TV, etc) and before i know it I'm up doing mom things again either for the kids or house. Sigh. It is a HUGE effort for me to focus on myself but if I don't I will be really unhappy, get sick, and not be able to take care of my family.
I have started to treat myself like my best friend. I eat well with periodic splurges, no more emotional eating. I am finding other ways to deal with boardem, loneliness, and stress besides eating. I leave the house work when it is sunny outside or I have a chance to get out and do something fun and DO NOT feel guilty about it. The house work will still be there when I get back. I finally emptied the boxes in my closet. I am dressing up for myself, not just jeans and a t-shirt anymore, even if I am the only one to see me in my pretty clothes.
Anyways, I understand some of what you are going through. It is easy to give everything to your family and hard to set limits to keep some time for yourself. It is a juggling act and some days are better than others.
Feel free to add me if you would like and we can help each other reach our goals.0
