Help understanding levels of protein vs carbs etc

I am very new to dieting and am learning so much just from tracking my foods using MFP. I don't know how many carbs vs fats vs proteins I should be consuming. I am using the pie graph to get a visual regarding those numbers which is great Because it shows me where I can adjust my foods based on the need to increase or decrease some of the levels I just don't know where I should be aiming.
Additionally, I don't understand the percentages because lets say I consume 54% carbs. The chart will show me 50% / 55%. What does the second percentage mean?

the chart works with bands of percentages, 54 sits in the band 50-55. It makes it easier to draw and changes less.0
