going over my allowance

Tell me your opinion. I went over by 550 calories today. Do I chalk it up as a "loss", or a maintenance day, or should I exercise for an hour to try and burn that off?

I would just drink lots of water to flush the excess sodium and call it a day. One day is not going to undo your efforts.0

That's what I would do. When I go over by a lot, I just think of it as a maintenance day. No biggie.0 -
I think that's what I'll do. I already worked out today, too, and I really shouldn't over do it. Now I know why I gained weight last year around this time. I've gone to four Halloween/Harvest parties, along with a potluck at work last night. I guess it's my whole routine is off. No excuse, but it is what it is.0

Precisely. That happened to me today, too. I feel crummy about it but tomorrow is a new day and I know that this one day won't negate my hard work.0 -
That's kind of the beauty of MFP. Your goal already considers your deficit. When you go over (unless its a huge binge), its most likely not going to cause you to gain weight0

It's really up to you. One dayofbad eating will not make you fat, just like one day of eating healthy will not make you thin. Don't sweat it. If it makes you feel better, work in an extra workout this week to help break more even, otherwise chalk it up to experience and don't beat yourself up over it.0

...except for the water/flush/sodium part.0 -

This.
See that was my whole problem till I hit goal weight & even then after it. I was so scared to go over on ANY day, even just once cause in my mind it was "you will put it all back on in one day" even though I knew it was not true. It was all a mental thing & it's so hard to get out of that mindset.0 -

Yesterday I went over my calorie allowance but I knew I was gong to do so. The important thing is your calorie average at the end of the week.0 -
If you set your losses to 2 pounds a week, you're at a 1000 calore deficit. Which means if you went over by 550, you still have a deficit of 450. If it's 1 pound a week, you ate maintenance and so on.0
