Today, for the first time in several weeks, I finished under my calorie goal. Things have been wacky for the last several weeks. I guess my body got tired of the two pound a week average, and balked. I have been SO hungry that I have been eating over my calorie goal that MFP suggested for 2 lbs a week. AND feeling guilty. That # has been 1310 calories per day. I always knew that at some point in time I was going to stop losing. Obviously none of us are ever going to get to zero.
Several weeks ago I was within 3 lbs of my goal to lose 200 pounds and weigh in at 215. I had lost 7 pounds in week, and then gained those 7 right back WITHOUT going over the calorie goal. Then the hunger set in.
So after three weeks or so of struggling with the calorie goal and not losing, Bill Engvall magically appeared and said "Here's your sign"
I have changed my weekly goal to lose 1.5 lbs a week instead of 2 lbs a week. That added 290 calories. Hopefully this minor tweak in the regimen will put me back on the downward slope. And I won't feel so guilty for eating an extra low sugar granola bar.
No praise for my weight loss or criticism of the calorie goal is needed - everybody has an opinion, and I did what worked for me. The purpose of this post is to share that once something stops working, Engvall is handing you a sign. And its time to make a minor adjustment to see if that works. I always get ideas from what other people do - whether what they do worked for them or not. I look at my own situation and apply accordingly if and when necessary.
So here's a situation where I am going to eat more (290 calories a day) to see if that will stimulate my body back into losing, albeit al a slower rate - going from 2 to 1 1/2 pound a week.
I (and my ticker) will let you know how it goes..
