Eating out - Italian - menu help!

I have to go to a work dinner tonight at an Italian restaurant reknowned for pizza. I'd rather not just go for a green salad, but I'm sure it's a landmine of calories once I venture into the rest of the menu.

Does anyone have any reasonably healthy standby dishes at Italian restaurants? Should I just go for something vegie-heavy, like an eggplant lasagne or something?

T-minus-2 hours to dinner!

Well, how often do you go out to eat? If this is a rare occasion, I would recommend just enjoying yourself and eating something yummy. One day does not make or break your diet.

I eat out regularly, but hardly ever Italian, partly because of this dilemma and partly because I worked as a waitress in an Italian restaurant when I was a teenager and it turned me off for life! :P But it's true that I should just try to enjoy it - was just curious if there were some healthier choices I could be leaning towards that I couldn't immediately bring to mind.

Spaghetti with pasta sauce and meatballs isnt too bad unless tossed in butter. Or better yet, chicken parmesan! Or a ravioli in pasta sauce.

I would just eat whatever, but if you are worried, ask for a half order.

Do they have a menu online you can look at before you go? Maybe you can calculate some options. Personally, I love Italian...so enjoy. :-)

Eat something before you go out so you're not super hungry, and enjoy a slice of pizza and a salad.
  • I usually get a large green salad and a side of meatballs.
