How do you track cooking sprays that go by the seconds and by grams? Do you count how many seconds you spray your frying pan? That's how I do it. But what do you do when it goes by grams and tsp? the new one I got goes by tsp/grams while my other one goes by how many seconds you spray for...

    Hi,
I belong to weight watchers here in Australia and when you use cooking sprays - as long as you are not coating it in oil it's zero points (so negligible calories) I think the idea is it is used up when cooking. If you are spraying for a while though, I would try to guage how many tea spoons it is.

The other thing that may help is if you google - average grams for spray oil per second - and see if there is any indication on how to judge that out in the interwebs. Then you can convert the grams to teaspoons etc.
    Hope that helps

i honestly think it's impossible to find out... I spray for around 4 to 5 seconds...so my question is, is a full second considered a tsp?

Most of the time I cook in butter, it's much easier to count. If I do use the spray I've noticed that the kcal count is nominal so I don't worry about it

Do you have digital kitchen scales? A simple option would be to spray oil for 4-5 seconds directly onto the scales (or onto a plate after tare-ing). That will give you an accurate measurement of how many grams you're using.

I think 1 - 2 sec is rather how it's supposed to be...

If you ca not oil the whole pan up in 1 - 2 sec you are holding spray too close to it, it should be like 10 centimeters not 2. Kinda like woman do when they are spraying that thing on their hair to keep the shape, you do it from 10 - 15 cm distance to cover more space and get it all over your hair evenly, same for spray.

Otherwise you better off just using oil and measure it by teaspoons...

Otherwise you better off just using oil and measure it by teaspoons. If you do it correctly then it will be like 1 - 5 cals. Assuming you are using special low/no cal spray and not just an olive oil in spraying bottle. In witch case you also just better off using oil and measuring by teaspoons...
  • I sprayed my scale on how i spray my pan all the time, and it came out to be 2 grams. so I'm tracking it that way.
