Upping calorie consumption good or bad?

Think I am going to up my calorie consumption to 1500... I am lifting more and trying to run more- but gaining weight (not much, 3 pounds). Has anyone upped it? Should I try to just do the 1500 or 1500 plus the exercise allowance I am given?? Right now doing 1300 + whatever I am also allowed doing exercise. I work out every day for a minimum of 45 min. Desk job but walk plenty, go up and down three flights of stairs two times a day
