I do not drink soda EVER, but this article has been brought to my attention today. Do you really think your body knows the difference between "sugar" and "corn syrup"? Both are empty calories, so why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch? Just looking for opinions. What do you think?

I am not a food scientist or nutritionist but as a human being who has been on this Earth for a while I would imagine tha sugar grown is probably healthier than some corn syrup that was basically created in a lab. If i were going to drink a Coca Cola i would prefer it with real sugar. However it isn't going to taste the same as you're used too. Most people have probably forgotten what a Coke with real sugar tastes like.

    Stay away from sodas.

I much prefer the taste of Mexican coke, and drink a whole lot less of it (because it expensive). It will be a sad day for me if Sam's stops carrying Mexican coke.

And this is why you should use facts and not imagination.

But, no. Corn syrup is manipulated in the lab to get precise percentages of fructose and glucose, not to make frankensugar molecules.

Sugar (sucrose) is a disaccharide consisting of a glucose chain and a fructose chain. High fructose corn syrup is a mixture of water, fructose, and glucose. The normal percentages for soft drinks are 55% fructose and 42% glucose. It's true that your body processes glucose and fructose differently, but there is not a significant difference between sucrose and HFCS...

Practically speaking, in your diet, there is little difference between sugar and HFCS.

Table sugar is sucrose: equal parts fructose and glucose.
HFCS: Roughly half fructose (sometimes a little more, depending on how it was made), the other part glucose.

I would classify them under SDT. Same dang thing.

I personally prefer the "Mexicoke"...as well as "Mexifanta" and any other soda with cane sugar over HFCS...it's a flavor/taste thing. I find HFCS to be too sweet and "sticky" in my mouth while beverages like Mexicoke and Mexifanta to be more refreshing.
