Sugar, the new evil??

I've been watching fat and calories for a few months now and i'm being told more and more I should be watching my sugar intake.

whats the deal? how much should/shouldn't I be eating?

    You should really be watching your calorie intake. That is pretty much it. If you care about macros, sugar counts as a carbohydrate and is not evil.

    Most people who are trying to be healthy/lose weight tend to avoid REFINED sugars because they are a lot of calories with very little grams of food/nutrition.

    The other reason to avoid refined sugar is that it can abruptly spike your blood sugar, then crash it, causing hunger and more cravings than if you didn't eat sugar at all. If you're feeling peckish, try a whole grain like oatmeal to balance your blood sugar, it's a more gradual/steady increase.

    Natural sugars like those found in fruit and milk shouldn't be fretted about.

    The only reason to avoid sugar or carbohydrates (since they eventually are turned into sugar by your body) is if your doctor has told you to. There may be reasons such as insulin resistance or diabetes.
