The Day After My Run

Hey guys! I'm a fairly new runner, I started with a C25K app in May, completed that, and I've move on to the 10K app. My runs are going great, I'm increasing distance and speed in increments, but doing it slowly and according to plan to avoid injury or setbacks. My issue is this...I find on the days I run I'm not very hungry at all, but the day after I am starving and feel like I could eat double my calorie intake. I am eating back between 50-75% of my exercise calories on the day I run, and while yesterday was not a banner day for healthy food choices, (it was not a run day, today is) if you look back through my journal, I do pretty well making healthy choices and I don't feel hungry the majority of the time. It just seems to be the day after a run. I've looked at TDEE -20% to see if that would be more than MFP is giving me but they are basically the same give or take 20 calories.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has any ideas on adjustments I could make? Thanks! I appreciate it!

It's pretty normal. Some people are hungry right after a workout, but other people don't "feel it' until the next day (like you).

No reason you couldn't eat a little less on run days when you're not hungry and a little more on rest days when you are, as long as things are still balancing out over the course of several days to a week.

Yup. Whenever I up my miles i switch to a weekly goal over a daily one. I am never that hungry immediately after a long run, but the next day will shove anything that won't kill me into my food hole.

Awesome! Thanks for the replies! I have a fitbit flex so setting a weekly goal as opposed to a daily one won't be hard to keep track of. Thanks again!
