Ladies - how often/when do you weigh?

So I used to weigh myself on a weekly basis, then fortnightly once my loss slowed down; I used to hate seeing the numbers fluctuate (even though I know it's the whole water-weight business, female systems, etc.).

Anyway, now I'm sticking to weighing once a month (after TOM), and was wondering if this is correct to get the most accurate reading? I figured this made the most sense since it's at this time each month your body will be in the same state. It seems to be working since my weight has jumped down since my last weigh-in, which was admittedly 2 months ago - my cycle's getting a bit unpredictable lately!

I used to feel the urge to check that number a lot more often but it's actually been less pressure doing it this way. Does anyone else find this?

Replies

  • I like to weigh myself once a month as well. Sometimes I wait 2 months. I do, however, take my measurements every couple of weeks. That always makes me feel better.
  • I want to make a goal of once a week, and if it is TOM then not to worry too much if it gone up a couple of pounds cos it's likely to drop again the week after if I keep to the plan. I think I'm gonna find the graph feature helpful to see if there is a significant change during different times.

So I weigh myself on a daily basis. I am checking what I weigh at night (days I eat a lot and days I don't) - Now that I am working out a lot and consistent check my weight in the morning upon waking and then after exercising… It makes me accountable. The weight I am looking at and recording is the morning one before working out… cause after is probably mostly water? What do you think.

When I don't weigh myself I lose track and gain a lot!! It makes me mindful like going home to a scorned spouse!!

Anyway, now I am just keeping to that to keep me on track .. its crazy but the scale and measuring tape is my friend!! Does anyone else find this?

I weigh myself about once a month. Sometimes 2 or on a rare occasions, after 6 months. So when I do, I gotta make it count. I have to have a ritual.

It all begins days before. I must conquer the water weight demon. What do I do. Drown myself in water. I drink so much water that if I was in Titanic, Leo would be alive. I drink and drink till Kate remembers “oh Leo… theres room for 2 on this piece of wood that I selfishly have been hogging”.

Next, its fiber. Prunes. Fruits. Placenta. I don’t know, I just wanna poop. I eat anything and everything! Eat more carrots than at KY jewelers.

I need to get on the good side of the God. I know what to do. I shouldn’t, but I must. Its for the greater glory of my weight. I must conquer the creepy bro at the gym.

We know this bro. He’s the one that spends 2 hours doing nothing but checking out the girls and working his upper body. And anytime a girl makes the mistake of looking in his general direction, he walks up to them. Creeping them. I must make the sacrifice of creeping the creeper. It must be done. When he walks up to the girl, I grab the weights he’s been lifting and sweating over and start licking them and start rubbing his Olympic bar between my thighs and making eye contact with him. I do it until he leaves the poor girl alone. Small sacrifice to make the weigh scale God happy.

Then the day before the weigh in arrives. The big day. D day. This is the night we conquer all. This is the night we don’t even goto gym in worry of sore muscles retaining water weight. This is the night we pray!

“Dear God in heaven, who pwns the weight scales. You rock. May all the proteins someday belong to you and the curvy girls realize the difference between curvy and chubby. May you pwn our weight scales like Paula Deen pwns butter. Give us this day a number that saves us from water retention, starvation mode and the bulk. And cut me some slack when I act all nub and do the happy dance. You dig it though that its only because I love your help right? Please don’t make me big headed with all the success and make lame posts on the forums when I’m too pissed off at somebody for disagreeing with me. Give me the strength to know the right from wrong and the ability to mock the haters till they send me hate PMs. And if you could keep NSA from spying on my creeper posts, that would be great too.

    Amen

PS. Did anyone ever told the Backstreet Boy Why?”

And then I rest. I know what is tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day we dine in hell!

Morning time. 3 years old nephew wakes me up “I want some ice cream!”

“No, not till I fight the battle with scale demon, my boy. Now, step aside as Uncle needs to take a dump!”

With fear and envy in his eyes, the child steps aside and puts on cartoons. I walk into the restroom. Screams of a battle comes from the bathroom, shaking the very foundation of my home.

“HNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!! OH GOD THE FIBER! IT HURTS! HHHNNNNNNNNNGGGGG!!!!”

With the toilet now clogged, I take on the next challenge. I scrub myself in the shower. I scrub so hard that my brown skin magically turns into that pale white girl from Twilight. I need to wash off anything that could add to the weight.

Then the shave. I shave my manly beard and stach. Then the hair. All hair. I’m bald like Michael Phelps now.

Then I get out of the batroom. No towel. Don’t need it. Lay naked and turn on the fan. Air dry myself. Because towel drying might add some weight to me.

Then finally comes the part of weighing myself

“oh God this is it. This is the big dragon boss. Oh God help me!”

    2 lbs lost.

I think it's a great idea to weigh in once a month. Less discouraging and like you said, more accurate.

I used to weigh myself once a week and for a while that worked but after a while, slowed down...
  • I'm doing my best to do once a week but haven't manage to yet. Want to make Tuesday my weigh in day in the morning before coffee.

Daily. Every morning right after first pee. Naked. I enter my weight on an excel spreadsheet where I've set up weekly and monthly averages. I focus on my weekly average to monitor and assass my weight. I graph my weekly and monthly averages. Daily weighing keeps my focus on the long term cause I have the hard data going back now for 547 days. I see my daily weight fluctuate as much as 6 pounds in one week, but the average for the week is a consistent smooth curve with a negative slope, slowly flattening out as I approach maintenance.

I weigh every Friday morning, naked, after using the bathroom. I log the weight whether it's up or down.

I take my measurements on the 1st of every month. I log these as well.

I'm maintaining now but I've always done once a week. I skip my weigh in during the week of my period though, as I know it will show a gain due to water weight. I don't want to feel discouraged by seeing that so I just skip it.

I weigh myself everyday. Some people say that's too much but I would rather see daily weight fluctuations and get to know my body than weighing like once a week and only seeing part of the picture.

I weigh daily in the morning. I feel that it gives me the most accurate picture, and I'm not bothered by daily fluctuations. I look at the trend.

I try to weigh myself once every one to two weeks. I do this so I don't end up getting too attached to the scale, and get discouraged in a fluctuation in weight.

No towel?? No towel?? Major mistake. You need the towel, the rougher the better, or better yet a loofah, to exfoliate a couple layers of skin after the shower. You could probably scrape off two or three ounces. THEN you use a microfiber towel to basically dust off any exfoliated skin that's clinging to you, or any lint the first towel might have left. That fan is probably blowing dust motes on to you.

I weigh once a week, which works for me: infrequent enough that I'm not driving myself crazy with fluctuations from the eat/drink/digest/evacuate/void cycle, but often enough to keep tabs on whether I'm getting the results I expect, and keep myself honest. I'm still fairly early in the process, and am at a 1.5 lb/week deficit, according to my actual data -- MFP thinks it has me on a 1 lb/week deficit. When I get further along and cut back to a true 1 lb/week deficit or a half pound a week deficit, I'll think about whether every two weeks or once a month makes more sense.

Edited to finish the post -- the site or my browser cut me off before I was done.

Yeah, I do once a month, too, or sometimes every two weeks. I'd be too discouraged weighing more often than that. And, I always weigh AFTER a rest day, first thing in the morning. My body tends to lose excess water on rest days.

Daily but I count it weekly :)
  • I weigh in once a week on monday morning when I get up after going to the loo. Same time every week without fail. Not too bothered what my weight is as Im only really iterested in seeing my BF% drop, though obviously my current size means I am aiming to lose weight as well. I also take my body measurements every four weeks at the same time, and keep track of everything in a Excel spreadsheet where I can reference everything from workouts to weight to body measurements to how im feeling before I workout with a couple of clicks of the mouse.

Its helped doing this as there have been a couple of occasions where Ive stayed static for a few weeks, and realised I need to either tweak my macros or rejig my workouts. I can also see a trend in when I am likely to mentally not be quite with it, usually two weeks before my TOM and this helped me recognize the fact that there is a reason I suddenyl want to go sod it and feel like giving up for a few days. In my case losing weight and wieght training to get fitter while also trying to change my body composition isnt solely about the physical side of things, it is also about my my mental processes too so that I stay motivated to keep on track and not just let it slide like I have done in the past.

I still have off days, I still have days where my diet goes out the window or I dont workout like I should, but having the records I do reminds me of where I started and how much work I have put in, and how that I can make the changes conitnue to happen. :)
