Shall I put a fitbit on my Xmas list?

Thinking about getting a fitbit, but I've heard mixed reviews. What do people think?

I am thinking the same as you. I have heard mixed reviews and don't want to waste the money so I am very interested to read what folks have to say.

I got my Fitbit Zip around the end of August and love it. I had gained a lot of weight back after losing 120lbs and have used my fitbit to start losing again. I still log all my food on MyFitnessPal and then I allow the fitbit to adjust for calories burned. I love how it helps to keep me active. Its almost like a game for me....can I hit my step goal of 10,000 steps a day! Def put it on your list.

Yeah, it's pretty cool, and they have recently launched fitbit force which has a small lcd screen which shows your steps,etc... pretty handy, for activity monitoring, plus it syncs with mfp.

I LOVE my fitbit and really recommend it. It keeps me motivated and it was pretty spot on with my TDEE estimation as well.

OMG it is just a pedometer? for £50! Just had a look at the web site and aside from the fact that it uploads the info to their app I can't see that it is any different to a £5.99 pedometer. Why not just take the time to input the details yourself from one of those? Aftre all, you will be sitting in front of the computer anyway in order to read what has just been uploaded and if you put it straight into MFP then you get all the rest from that...

I have had the flex for 3 weeks and love it. It could only be better (will be) when they develop the software to sync with my phone. iPhone and Samsung users can already do this. It is giving me slightly less of a burn than when I entered exercise manually but that's fine with me!
  • I love my fitbit flex, I think the big reason for me is it's so motivating, I'll get up and go for a walk just to hit my goal. If someones going to buy it for you, my advice is go for it. If money is an issue go for one of the cheaper models or look into other pedometers.

It is essentially a good pedometer, it will be a little more accurate than cheaper ones though. But it also tracks distance, stairs climbed, a pretty accurate calorie burn estimate, how long you spend active, sleep times and you can add some friends to help keep you motivated.

The website is also well designed to show your progress and goals (in my opinion) :)
