Kettleworx

How can Kettleworx burn so many calories in just 20 minutes? Is it because of the weight? This just seems so off for me. 20 minutes equals 587 calories burned?

Burning that many calories in that short of an amount of time is not really possible. Your HRM settings are probably way off or it wasn't reading right. Even the most intense forms of exercise out there only burn about 150 cal per 10 minutes.

BTW Kettleworx is not that great of a program. It's more of aerobics with weights than actual kettlebell training, and the guy behind it (Ryan Shanahan) had begun shying away from that program and distancing himself from it in an effort to be taken more seriously as a kettlebell aficionado.

I typed in kettleworx under exercise on MFP and that's what I got for calories burned. Apparently, this is someone else's guess as to how many calories burned?

That is high. How are you calculating the calories burned?

It's a very very very overestimated guess. You should probably log it as circuit training, general to get a little bit more realistic estimation, and even that is probably over by a bit.

    Thank you!

What do you think of this formula for figuring calories burned? I found this on MFP.

Here is the formula on how to post calories burned doing the kettleworx workout.

This is new for me and hurts my knee sometimes, but it feels good when I am done. Muscles are burning all over. Got to keep going!!!

To those of you using this program and want to figure how many calories you burned…
multiply 6.3 METs (metabolic equivalent) by your weight = calories per hour

Calories per hour divided by 60 (minutes) = calories burned per minute

Calories burned per minute multiplied by 20 mins (how long the tape is) =calories burned

That doesn't seem bad, but at this point it's all just guess and estimations.

I'd be worried about the knee, though. Don't do ANYTHING that gives you knee pain. Not until you figure out WHY.

Opps, sorry about posting that. That was from the person that had the formula.
