Stadium Seats at a College Basketball Arena

NSV of the day: I went to a college basketball arena and I was able to sit in the seat with room to spare. When I was over 400 pounds, there is no way that I could have fit. I saw in front of me a guy who was very obese and he looked so uncomfortable. I felt like talking to him to say I know what you're going through but I didn't.

Now that I'm at a healthy weight, I'm noticing how many fat people there are when I go to public places like Walmart. When I was heavier, if someone came up to me and talked to me about my weight, I felt really uncomfortable. For me, it was my 5 year old son who said "Dad, you're too fat" that was me "wake-up call" so to speak.

What are your thoughts about giving both unsolicited and solicited advice with weight loss? Lots of people are now asking me "how did you do it?" and they seem upset when I say diet and exercise. I work out at least 2 hours a day and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. I guess no one wants to hear that. There is no magic pill for weight loss.

Congratulations on your NSV! That's so impressive. I also appreciate that you are compassionate about others who are currently in your old situation.

My personal perspective is not to offer unsolicited advice. As a person who has received well-intentioned unsolicited advice for myself, I did not appreciate, nor did I heed their advice. What I did do was feel extra bad for myself that day or days. It's kind of you to consider their perspective and that you would put yourself out there for a stranger shows you've got great courage! If they do ask then I know you'll be the perfect person to share!

Congratulations again and have a wonderful weekend!

Congrats!! I've had many of those great moments myself recently. I love being able to fit anywhere now :)

It is awesome that you care and want to help but I don't think you should offer unsolicited advice. If someone were to have spoken to me about my weight it would have embarassed me and made me feel bad about myself. I'm sure he knows he is overweight and let us pray that something will click with him to push him to get healthy.

Continue to do what you are doing!!!

    Great job OP.

Best to keep unsolicited advice to yourself. I know with your journey you want to save everyone else you can but at the end of the day you can only be gracious with those seeking your help if you want to make a difference.
