Circuit training for cardio ?'s

I hit the elliptical just to get my heart-rate up some (helps me adjust to being at the gym) before I lift. The thing is I need cardio but I get really bored on the cardio machines, I do interval and still just bored. I was wondering if low weight/high rep, stepping for 30 sec break can take the place of hitting the cardio machine. Not the 10 when I get to the gym but the other cardio that I know I need to do.
