Surely thats ridiculous!

Hi Guys,

Me and this missus are having a lazy day and letting the bodies recover after 5 days in a row at the gym. Im having a chilled saturday morning but decided to do an hour on the bike whilst watching Breaking Bad :-)

So... In one hour I did 32km which equates to 19.8 miles. So unless I am being stupid doing 20 mile in an hour led me to put in cycling (20mph) for 60 minutes... It is suggesting I would have burnt 1995 calories... Don't get me wrong I would be proud of that but seriously that cant be the case? I have heard that the MFP calculations can be out but surely thats ridiculous.

Bit of background about me if it helps. Office worker and abit of a fatty... Started going the gym religiously recently to lose wight for my wedding. Currently weigh 275pounds / 19stone 9lb and height 6ft 6.

I'm assuming your on an exercise bike. It sounds like your using the entry for cycling on the roads which would involve road resistance, wind resistance and varying terrain so using a lot more energy. So a constant 20 mile an hour depending on weight could burn those sort of calories. Look for an entry in the database specifically for exercise bike

Yes an exercise bike is different and the distance is not the same level of effort as outdoors. I have also found that mfp's cycling estimates are quite high compared to my HRM. Some MFP entries are accurate (running and walking specifically).
