Any "diet" that puts you in a deficit will have as a result weight loss.
Eat the things you like at a deficit hitting your macros is much simpler than following some sort of "diet" and is more sustainable in the long run

not sure if you mean a specific detailed diet - but living in the region, i guess i mostly follow the mediterranean diet: i eat lots of vegetables (both fresh and grilled), beans/lentils, chicken, garlic, olive oil, fresh herbs, feta cheese (low fat), yogurt (low fat), etc. It's not magic - no diet is. It's all a question of eating X number of calories a day, exercising, etc.

There is no such thing as "the Mediterranean Diet." Just like there's no "Asian diet" or "African diet." It's a diaspora of many different culinary traditions.

I think OP is referring to this... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mediterranean-diet/CL00011 (which I'm tempted to try, only because I <3 Mediterranean food and I've heard that life expectancies of those in the Mediterranean are v. high)

Edit: OP, the diet is more to do with the types of food you are eating and how they can improve your health...only a deficit is the surefire way to lose! :)

I'm aware of what the OP was referring to! :) I'm saying that the fad diet is based on the idea that "Mediterranean people" all eat a certain way as a homogeneous group.

I've been doing that Mediterranean Diet. Lost 30 pounds on it so far, quite rapidly when I first started.

I am eating at a deficit though and limiting sodium (which isn't something the diet itself tells you do to).

Its quite healthy and low in bad fats; very good heart healthy diet. If you eat it at a diet, I'm sure you'll loose weight.
