Self-esteem/body image

I have a lot of friends (in RL and here) that have self-esteem and/or body image issues. I think most women (and a lot of men) do! Surely, you can think of 10 things you like about yourself! Let's hear it!

My list:
1) my eyes are a beautiful color blue
2) I'm kind to people when they need it most
3) I'm a hard worker and it pays off
4) I'm a good cook
5) I'm an excellent big sister
6) my *kitten* is starting to look bangin from all the squats
7) I'm excellent with numbers
8) I'm funny
9) I have a huge heart for all things furry
10) I'm level headed

I don't blame any of you.

You are constantly bombarded with messages that tell you that the way you are is not good enough. That you need high heels, makeup, hair color, lipisuction, whatever. It's ridiculous and damned near impossible to counteract.

All of my female MFP friends kick royal *kitten*, often on a daily basis.

They inspire me, that's why I consider them friends.

Since changing my lifestyle (ketogenic Primal/Paleo) and having all of my illnesses resolved, the self esteem and positive body image just came along with it. No effort needed. I think it's because my brain was also unhealthy and self hate and discontentment was part of that. And it could be an age thing too. The older I get, the happier I get, the more grateful I get, and the less important the little stuff gets. Getting rid of the tv helped too, as well as living in a community where artificial beauty is socially unacceptable. My body isn't perfect, I don't expect it to be perfect and I no longer measure myself according to other people. I recognize that other people are not perfect either. I am just me. I love me. :)

    Specific things:

    1. I'm a critical thinker
    2. I am not a follower
    3. I'm curious about everything-always learning
    4. I'm extremely empathetic
    5. I love all things on our planet (not just the furry ones)
    6. Honest (to a fault)
    7. I am healthy
    8. I am attractive
    9. I provide healthy food and environment for my family
    10. Sometimes I inspire others. :)

I love this!! I just read about an interview Jennifer Lawrence did and she also talked about how sad it is that so many women have body-image issues. In the words of J-Law.. 'Stop calling each other fat!"

    Here's my list-

1- My legs. They are freakin awesome. Dem quads and my big ol' calves- they're just so curvy! I will admit right now that I love going to the gym because I love looking at my awesome leg muscles in all those mirrors :-)
2- My hands. I inherited beautiful bone structure from my great-grandmother.
3- My hair. IMO (which is what matters on this topic, right?!) my hair is the perfect color of brown, with awesome low and highlights of it's own, and goes so perfectly with my skin tone.
4- My laugh- sometimes when I start laughing I can't stop because my own laugh makes me laugh. And then sometimes I snort.
5- My feet. They have really high arches, which I think is pretty.
6- My ability to jump through the appropriate hoops of life to get what I want. I grew up poor. Really poor. I figured out at a young age what I needed to do to get where I am today, which is a job (that I actually like) that pays me enough to live in relative comfort.
7- My strong, capable, functional body. I earned it! And I use it every day to do awesome, fun *kitten*!
8- My ability to REALLY listen to people- this sometimes brings me a little grief. I sometimes feel like I have a sign on my forehead that says 'Please tell me all your life problems,' but I think that people can probably just sense that I'm a good listener and a good person to go to for comfort. It really helps me build strong friendships, so it's worth it :-)
9- My cooking skillz- Lemon raspberry coconut flour pancakes and juicy roast beef on the breakfast menu this morning.
10- My dancing skillz. They are also amazing.

Thanks for the post, girl. This was fun :-)

Of course an edit or two for spelling.
