Well done on the quitting! Dont let that gain stop you..
Glad you said you know its from eating that you are gaining hehe

    - sugar free chewing gum, when you want to pop something in your mouth make it that
    - water, take a few sips when you feel the craving (for food or ciggies) coming on
    - Do/Think of something else, if the thought of smoking or eating something comes just learn to replace that thinking with something else, ANYTHING else, just distract your mind from that thought.

Those really helped me, get your mind right to get back into your calorie deficit,
I usually give myself 3 days only after quitting (yes done it plenty of times lol) to not worry about food.
But if you stick to your deficit and logging you should see a change soon.

    Good luck :)

smoking increases your metabolism, so its pretty normal to gain weight when you stop... so the only thing you can do is exercise more or stop eating so much!
  • Hiya :)

First off, CONRGATULATIONS on quitting smoking, it is the best thing you can do for your body.

I'm in the same boat....quit smoking almost a month ago now. I didn't eat more, made sure I tracked everything. I stopped losing weight. Could easily lose 8lbs in a week as a smoker but the weight loss will not happen since I quit. Even if you don't over-eat, your metabolism will slow down.

From what I've gathered the best thing you can do to counteract this is drink coffee and exercise. Smoking increases your heart rate, which leads to an increased metabolic rate - downside to this is an increased heart rate and smoking leads to atherosclerosis which may lead to heart disease and myocardial infarction. So the quitting smoking is definitely worth the decreased metabolic rate :P I've had to convince myself of this! It's been the HARDEST thing in the world to not smoke when there's no weight loss. I even thought about taking up smoking until I've kick started the losses. But in the end, it's just not worth it.

Try chewing sugar free gum, or eat sugar free jelly which is virtually calorie free. Get a fake/prop cigarette for something to do with your hands. If you feel stressed, take some deep breaths. A lot of the time smokers feel calmer because they inhale deep breaths of oxygen as well as carcinogens. So deep breathing can be very helpful.

Well done again for quitting, it is the hardest thing ever :'( I feel your pain!

I'm not a smoker, but this sounds like good advice. God bless you all in your efforts to kick the habit.

Yes, it's described often as the most difficult habit to break.
Have you considered vaping? If you're not familiar with vaping, check the links below. In a word, one uses a device to inhale (smoke), flavored Glycerin with user controlled nicotine (from 0 - 48mg available). Worked for me.

    Congratulations!

I would say, find a workout that you love and that you want to get better at. The more I got into my workouts, the less I wanted to do anything to inhibit my performance. Nothing feels better than reaching a goal.
