what pork do you use for pulled pork recipes?

what is the best "type" of pork for slow cooker recipes? I'm trying for it not to be too fatty.... I know there is pork butt, pork shoulder, pork loin, etc...

I'm looking make it this weekend and my recipe called for pork roast but I couldn't find it in the grocery store last night....

I would use loin since it is the leanest. It was actually on sale last week here for $1.99/pound.
  • pork shoulder aka pork butt or boston butt they are all the same cut just called different per shop. I cook my overnight, put in a cool pot in the AM, put in frig and when I get home all the fat is congealed on the top and you can just spoon it off. You need the fat to keep the pork moist while it cooks. pork loin is too lean and will turn to a hockey puck in the slow cooker that cut is better roasted.

Have you tried a farmshop, market or even a butcher? I find good old fashioned shopping is supporting local produce and is healthier in so many ways. With a bit of research, I am sure there's somewhere you can get a dead pig. Good luck.
