Juicing vs. Smoothies - a Difference in Benefits?

I keep seeing the benefits of juicing in books and documentaries such as, "Fat, Sick & and Nearly Dead". However I rarely see smoothies being mentioned. Am I missing something? I'm under the thinking the additional fiber in smoothies would be a plus.

I think the same way. If you want more fruits and veggies in your diet then eat more fruits and veggies. At least by making a smoothie you're getting all the fiber instead of just making sugar water.

Maybe you could have a new career. Make a documentary about drinking smoothies and sell over priced blenders!

With juicing you get all the vitamins and nutrients from whatever you are juicing, but unlike smoothies, you lose the fiber content. Basically, when juicing you can pack a whole lot in a small package- you can turn a whole bag of spinach into a cup of liquid- add a couple berries and it covers the flavor, whereas a smoothie with a whole bag of spinach may not be too easy on the palate. I suggest a healthy combo- juice the veggies that you are trying to use for the nutrients (spinach, kale, beets, carrots, etc) and then whip them up in a smoothie with berries, ice, maybe some low fat yogurt. I juice as things need to be used up, pop them in an ice tray, and have what I need ready to go when I want to mix up a smoothie!
