Back from cancer surgery....kind of....

Hi everyone!!!!! I'm back! Well sort of. Still can't exercise...already doing too much and have popped some sutures, but in a 3 story townhouse what am I going to do, right? Luckily the initial report is that they got everything nice and early, so no future problems are anticipated.

I've GAINED WEIGHT!!!!! I'd be running screaming, but I can't run yet. Not only that, I've got the dreaded "swelly belly" -- the abdominal swelling after surgery. Plus, the depression and anxiety before surgery along with the bed rest have really taken their toll. I should've been restricting my food intake, but frankly it was tough enough, you know? Plus all the steroids, pain meds, IVs, etc...YIKES!

So I'm back to at least try to track. I've been cleared to drive finally and also to do some light walking. In 2 wks I can start light arm weights while sitting, calf raises, etc....things that won't really engage the core too much. Well, what's left of it.

So I guess it's time to start at square one.

    Welcome Back!!!!

I am so glad that everything with your surgery went so well! You will be right back to your weight before you know it! I bet it will be like water weight and just melt right off.

    Hi NYIceQueen,

First of all, I'm so glad to hear that your surgery sounds like it went ok. That would be a difficult ordeal for anyone, so you certainly should *not* beat yourself up over gaining any weight. Seriously. You are clearly a fighter and this is just a little kink in your progress that you'll overcome before you know it.

It's good that you can do walking. Walking is such a great exercise and it'll keep you losing weight until you feel ready to do more (not that you really need to- enough walking can make you lose a whole bunch of weight).

Keep your chin up- easier said than done, I know, but I have absolute faith that you can do this and we are all here for you. Best of luck!

Thanks!! I honestly cried the first time I looked in the mirror after surgery. I was bloated to looking about 7 months pregnant. It was just horrible. Then getting on that scale....wow. I'm back down a bit now, thankfully, but I was about 8 lbs heavier 2 wks ago.

Walking will be great. Short distances is about all I can do, then I've got to sit. It's just going to take time.

But it feels good to be back here, like a "first step" or fresh start. And at least now I don't have *this* whole thing hanging over me. Meds will still be there, though, but I lost some before on steroids, so no reason to not be able to do that again.
