Have a Question- would like input

So I weighed myself this morning and my lovely scale said I was 179 (from 182 a few days ago). The reason I thought I was 182 was when I went to the doctor for a visit a while ago my weight was there even though I had just been there several weeks before and was at 178. I was confused and thought it was water weight or something because I was on that time of the month however several days later it was still hanging around 182. Now I'm around 179 and I don't know what I actually weigh at the moment. I don't know if it was water weight and bloating that has just started to be gone (I've upped my water intake, have been eating less, and moving somewhat more), or if my scale this morning was a liar lol. Thoughts? I didn't record today's weight because I am not sure how accurate that is. Anyone have any ideas of what I should do? What do you think is going on? Strange situation I know.

I believe different scales will weigh you differently. Pick one scale to use and only use it to log your weight. I always make sure to put my scale in the same spot on the floor, too, because of dips and such in my old crappy floors.

Also, make sure your scale is correct. Find something in the house that says the weight in pounds on it, like a dumbbell or an unopened sack of flour or sugar. Set it on the scale and see if it matches up. If not, figure out how to recalibrate it. Digital scales will probably require the instruction manual, but normal scales usually have a wheel you can turn to move the needle to the right spot. Speaking of which, that style of scale can get off set over time, so always make sure the needle is perfectly on zero when nothing is on it.

The last time I went to my doctor (Oct. 2), I weighed at home first thing in the morning and was 175. On her office scale at 4:30 I was 178.3, dressed for work and after two meals. I would log the 179 and assume that the doc's office weighs heavier than home. No two scales are exactly the same.

    Perfectly stated.
  • I realize this too. After I went to the doctor I was confused (and mildly heart broken) so I weighed myself on my home scale to compare (my home scale is pretty darn accurate) and it confirmed what the doctor's scale said. Now it's saying differently and I'm not sure which is correct.

You know weight fluctuations are completely normal right? I just log whatever I weigh on Friday morning. Don't make yourself crazy over small fluctuations.
  • Yes I am aware that weight fluctuations are normal lol. I guess I'm not communicating my point accurately enough. I didn't feel that 4 pounds was a small fluctuation and I weighed 182 for several days and now I am back to my weight before said Dr.'s visit of 178-179. I am just pondering this. I am sure I can figure it out and will weigh myself on sunday (1 week from when I really started logging) and then record that weight. Thanks for the input! It was just a pretty big "gain" "fluctuation" or whatever it was and it lasted longer than fluctuations usually do for me. I just wasn't sure what was going on with my body.

    4lbs is a 'normal' fluctuation...

either weight daily so you learn how your body fluctuates, or do it just once a week and take that number as right, or dont weigh at all and use measurements/pictures instead!
