Getting frustrated...any ideas?

Hi Friends,

I've been diagnosed hypothyroid, PCOS and insulin resistance for about a year and a half. In the summer, I did a pretty intense 4 week diet that helped me to lose some weight, but right after the diet it came right back. At the end of the summer, I moved to do a year with Americorps. I'm on a lower budget, and much busier. Yesterday I went to the doctor for some other things, and found out that I've gained ten pounds in the past 3 months. I knew I hadn't been doing a super great job, but I didn't think I had gained 10 pounds! I've been excercising about 2-3 times a week, which is all my schedule really has had time for. I'm starting to re-arrange so I can hit the gym 3-4 times a week, for about an hour.

I'm frustrated, annoyed, and I don't know what to do to stay motived to really get down to a healthy weight. I'm going home for thanksgiving, and I know my mom will be disapointed. I'm hoping to really lose some weight by Christmas.

Any thoughts? How do you stick to your diet? How to you make a change that stays? How do you fight this hopeless feeling?

Take it one day at a time. Do it for yourself and not for your mom, or anyone else.

If you are busy are you fully paying attention to what you are eating or how much it adds up to?

I'm also pretty busy but with different circumstances - I'm in school full time with a program that also requires clinical hours, I have my regular full time job, I have a daughter and a husband that also need my attention, and I need to go to the gym. My best strategy is pre-planning everything on days where I know I'm going to be at the clinic, at work, the gym, and another activity (i.e. something for my daughter or errands). I don't veer from it.

I also always have healthy snacks on hand. ALWAYS. I like to eat. And I love to eat when I'm stressed/busy.

But take it one day at a time. give yourself a manageable goal - how about 5 pounds by Christmas? And try to SMASH that goal! Watch your portions. Take it a day at at ime. Before you eat, ask yourself if you are hungry adn then eat an apporpirate portion. And take it a day at a time!

    it's your diet.

You will need to sort out what works for you as you have various medical conditions. It might mean you have to check your macros (carbs/protein/fat) and find a ratio that works for you. It might also mean that you have to reassess what you think your BMR and TDEE is, because your various conditions might affect that negatively. The calculators on the internet assume you are both healthy and average, so you might need lower calories then someone who is of comparable height and weight.

    Good luck :-)
