So, I have officially been on a 7 month Plateau and feel like the BIGGEST failure EVER!! Oh, I have lost and gained 5 pounds here or there of water weight but pretty much stayed the same for the last 7 months. I have shook up the workout, switched up the diet. Added calories, deleted calories, even did a 5 day fruit and veggie detox. I workout 1 1/2 - 2 hours a day generally burning between 500 and 1000 calories a day, 6 days a week. I have shuffled my calories from 800 to 1400 a day trying to jump start something... anything. Walking, jogging, biking, weights, roller blading ~ trying different workouts to acheive muscle confusion. I am not going to give up, I can't, I have come too far.... but I really would like to see some results for all my hard work. Alright, there's my venting/*****ing session for the week.... hope everyone else has a great week. We ca ndo this because we deserve it and we are worth it!!!! Cindy

You are not a failure! Your success shows in the weight that you have already lost. I have been on a plateau for months myself. I have tried everything that you have. It is almost a if my body is trying to tell me that I am where I am supposed to be. Hang in there!

If you are burning 500-1000 cals a day you should be eating more than 1400 cals. The minimum you should eat is 1200 net so with your workouts you should be eating between 1700-2200 calories. You are definitely not eating enough.

If I had to venture a guess I would say that your metabolism has slowed down due to not getting enough fuel for months on end. You may want to increase your caloric intake slowly by adding an extra 50-100 a day until you get up to 1200 plus you exercise calories (as a minimum). you may put on a few pounds at first due to your body holding on to the calories as it still thinks it is starving and will store the energy as fat until it gets use to an increased caloric intake, then the weight should start to drop.

Good luck, and please eat more.

Sometimes when you lose a ton of weight, it takes a while for your body, hormones, everything to adjust. I was on a very long plateau and finally busted it by adding weight training (CrossFit workouts) and changing my diet (cutting all refined carbs). Don't do the 800 to 1400 calories - I would stick to a 1400 calorie diet especially burning the calories you are burning on a daily basis.

You'll bust it, don't you worry - just don't focus so much on the weight, and think more about improving/maximizing your workouts!

You're not a failure!! As scary as it may sound try eating more like suggested because it does make sense. I've been around the same weight for about a month now and it's making me crazy!! I may try adding more calories myself!
    Keep going!!

I'm with yah, sister! It's time for me to take a look at WHAT I'm putting in my body......not just counting calories. "I can still have that sausage biscuit if I cut out calories somewhere else" has been my way of thinking lately.......even though I know better. I feel so much beter when I eat healthy too!!!! But man, there are a few things I adore that I know I shouldn't have often. Mmmmmm sausage biscuit........................................SEE!?!? LOL
    We can do this Cindy!!!!!!

Thanks everyone... I know the eating more is most people's advice but it is very hard, food makes you fat, right??!! If I eat this much and stay the same, eating more will make me gain, this is what my brain is saying, but I am trying. After a 30 minute weight lifting stint this morning and 10 miles biking the road, a mere 550 calories burned I actually Did eat more calories than normal. I am usually a egg whiter in the morning (3 or 4 with a little pepper for flavor) this morning I took plain old fashioned oat meal and added a raw banana and 1/8 cup raisins for sweetening.... my food diary is already scarey and breakfast is the only thing on it yet... 370 calories and 78 carbs already!!! but it's a start and I will see if a few days of this will make a difference or just make my butt spread :) ... going for an hour of roller blading in the morning, so that will be a little more muscle confusion... we'll just have to watch and see. Thanks again... if nothing else I have TONS of energy and feel younger than I did 10 years ago, that's a plus, right??!! MUAH, love and kisses to all my wonderful friends, XOXOXO!!!

Food doesnt make you fat, food is simply fuel for your body. You have to change the way you look at it.
  • Hang in there!

I feel you completely. I was in the same boat and then suddenly I weighed myself on Monday (after being on vacation and was afraid to weigh in) and BAM! I lost. In my case, I think it was having a period of upping my calories. (Just a bit.)

But, while we're on here venting.... So I finally lost and was feeling great about it! THEN I put on a pair of pants I just bought (keep in mind I own 4 other pair of this same brand in the same size ) and they're too tight. I'm sticking to the story that since my old pair of these pants still fit (with room to spare) that this company changed something in there pants in the past few months just to make us feel bad about ourselves! Seriously, that's the last thing I need. So, here I sit in my too tight pants feeling bad and yesterday I was totally pumped!

just updating about my progress this week. Still same level of exercise, added a day of rollerblading and an upper body strength day AND I haev eaten back atleast half of my exercise calories each day and GUESS WHAT???.... I have gained 2 pounds! Isn't that just wonderful... Not the progress I was looking for but I guess I technically 'broke' the plateau. Will continue thoroughout the rest of the week and see what it holds, REALLY hoping I don't gain any more, Thanks everyone for your advice and support............
