Is it OK to dramatically increase exercise for a month?

Hey guys,

I am going to be on a sabbatical for a month. I'm wondering whether I could work out for 2hrs a day, 4-5 times a week. I currently workout for an hour thrice a week. I just don't want to gain when I go back to the office.

Planning to ramp up the diet as well... should be easier with lot more free time to cook and make healthy smoothies, salads at home.

Is it ok to really go all out for a month and then slip back into a 'moderately' healthy lifestyle?

Thanks!

Sure, no reason not to. But I would suggest ramping up to it, rather than starting all at once. It gives your body a chance to get accustomed to the new work load, which will reduce the chance of injury.

And fuelling is important - ramping up while decreasing intake may well cause problems.

Yeah, your body can adapt to most activity levels. It may take time though, so you may have to ease yourself into it. But try it and see how you get on, it doesn't sound particularly high in volume or frequency so you should be fine.
As long as you change your caloric intake based on your activity levels then changing activity levels shouldn't cause any problems in terms of weight loss.

Whether you gain or lose weight is related to your overall calorie intake. If you are exercising more, you should be eating somewhat more, conversely, once you go back to work, you need to adjust you diet so that you are continuing to eat within your daily calorie budget.
