Fast-5 Opinions/Success/Fail Stories

I just recently read about the Fast-5 diet and am wanting to try! I already do a very low calorie diet plus exercise and have a lot a lot to lose. I'm down 16 lbs (1 month) with about 48 to my first goal. I was hoping this would boost my weight loss even more than i have already!

I know this post already exists somewhere I'm sure but what the hell i wanna hear some new opinons!

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a recipe to binge to me. I would get so hungry in the other 19 hours I am sure I would pig out.

Eat healthier, move more. Measure your food, and log it. That's all you need.

That is intermittent fasting. It can surely work, but doesn't fit in my life. There is an intermittent fasting group on mfp.

I've been doing 5:2 for six months and am very happy with that.

5 days at TDEE and 2 days at 500 cals. Might be another option you can look into. www.thefastdiet.co.uk

Slow and steady wins the race... If you want to lose weight and keep it off you have to lose weight slow (no more than 2lbs a week)... you also have to make a healthy diet and exercise your lifestyle=forever. I lost weight fast in the beginning but now that I am 4 months in.. my losses are slow... as they should be. Patience is key.

Eat more food and add in some exercise.

Diets don't work in the long-term.

    This is not true.

What is true is aggressive weight loss = lots of muscle loss = higher body fat %.

Also, the first few weeks is a lot of water weight, so a person can't expect to lose 16 lbs a month, especially with only 40 lbs to lose. At this point, 1 lb per week is ideal and it's even more ideal to get 1g of protein per lb of lean body mass and do strength training to increase the chances to maintain lean body mass. In the end, the less muscle you lose, the less weight you need to lose to get a lean and fit body. I can't tell you how many threads I see about women who are at the low end of their weight range or underweight and still have 25%+ body fat and struggle to understand why they aren't fit looking.

OP, I'm confused. Do you only have 40lbs yet to lose, or 40 to your first goal? What is your overall goal? That will impact what your ideal deficit should be. And as for the weight training, you definitely should start as early as you can, like yesterday. I am so sorry I waited so long. As for the Intermittent Fasting, I do it occasionally, as I am a night eater anyway. If I have a big dinner to go to, I might skip breakfast, have a light lunch (or not) and save most (or all) of my calories for the evening hours, or do some other variation. Here's the IF group if you're interested in joining, there's tons of information to be had on there: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/49-intermittent-fasting

It was a pretty good movie. Rent though. Don't buy.
  • I have 40 pounds to lose to hit my first goal, i have a lot more than 40 to lose. More like 100 or more to go!. I need to be losing at least 2 pounds a week for sure.

I am able to keep up with my low calorie pretty easily i don't feel hungry, but I am three days into the IF and it's not so bad. I'll find out when i weigh in next week if it's helping or not. I figure calorie in, calorie out, and I'm working out even more so it's not gonna hurt to try the fasting.
