Transitioning from treadmill to outdoor running

I've done most of my running on a treadmill, but completing a race outside on Sunday completely changed that. I loved running outdoors. I mapped a few runs by my house and did a 5k today to see how it would go with running by myself. Loved it.

I just did a slow jog the whole way through because of the huge hills that I live by. I'm excited for them to be my new challenges.

The treadmill will be saved for late night runs now (I live in the middle of nowhere and there's no street lights).

Just curious if anyone has any tips or anything about switching to outdoor running.

Yes, it's going to be harder. You will be using different muscles.

Run on the left hand side of the road, against the traffic.
If you run with music, keep the volume down low enough that you can still hear what is going on around and behind you.
Dress as if it is 10 degrees warmer than it actually is - you will definitely get warmer as you run. Invest in some good cold weather gear for the winter.
Always assume that that drivers don't see you - so many stupid drivers out there.

Headlamp works awesome if you do find yourself out during dark hours! Runners world.com has a great tool called What to Wear- input the temp and a few others things and it will tell you what to wear for anytime of year.

Make sure you have a good pair of shoes! Pavement pounding is hard on your joints!
