she thinks the bed is her territory and she is being protective of it. I would not let her on the bed anymore, set one up for her on the floor.
i am not sure who is going to cry more when she is banned from the bed. My husband or the dog lol i seriously can not go to the bathroom alone without her crying!
ah your poor hubby well if he's not bothered by the aggression, but id just be fearful it might manifest towards family or friends.0 -
We are both very guilty of treating her like our baby. We can't have kids so she is the only thing we have like that. She is also our first dog. I always wanted one so I got a bunch of books and read them. I guess this one slipped by. Come to think of it any chance she gets she will get in-between him and I. She sits in my lap anytime I sit down, and follows right on my heels everywhere I go. I know any behavioral problems are the owners fault, and not the dogs. I just don't know how to fix it now.
It could be because he's gone a lot she might not be keen on a male in the house. It seems like she's trying to "protect" you from him. I don't think it's too late to discipline her. Perhaps take her to dog training might help as well or get your husband to spend time with her when he's home. Play with her outside, take her for walks etc.0 -

I got some great tips taking Pet-Co training classes or is it Pet Smart cant remember. They werent that expensive. We discussed the whole pack mentality of a dog, and how they are happy in a submissive role.
I of course love him, the Dog Whisperer Caesar Milan.
And there is nothing wrong with your baby girl she just needs a little reminder about her place in the family/pack0 -

I won't hit her of course but the hst thing he does seems to work. I will take her to those. It is really breaking his heart. He loves her with all of his heart. I think this will be good for her separation anxiety as well i hope. I have never left her for more than a few hours at a time, but she has freak outs anytime she can't see me. We did rescue her idk.0 -
Now if anyone can give me tips on how to stop two young dogs with boundless energy from digging I'd be very happy. I know they need a better job, Lab and German Shepherd, but with a baby on the way sadly they will probably take a back stage for awhile.0

He does need to do more of this as well. I am usually the only one to walk her, feed her, and take her to dog parks. He plays with her on the floor every day with her toys, but maybe some more one on one time will do them some good.0 -

It couldn't hurt. Just to get her a little more used to him.0 -

Put their poop in the holes. If they start a new hole, put their poop in that one too. Eventually they will give up. No dog wants anything to do with their own poop.0 -

He has been gone 1 and 1/2 years of her life....0 -
My dog does this to my boyfriend who has shared the bed with us regularly for the past year...I think she gets mad because she can be territorial and see him as sleeping in "her spot" right next to her mama with his head on her pillow. Makes me laugh, boyfriend does not appreciate it so much.0

OP, sounds like you guys have a good plan. Whenever I hear of aggressive stuff happening on a bed, I flash back to my friend getting bit in the face by one of her greyhounds because she dared to flop onto the bed it was already laying on. They claim there were no prior aggression issues. The fact that your dog is small makes me feel better. Just be careful.0 -
she thinks the bed is her territory and she is being protective of it. I would not let her on the bed anymore, set one up for her on the floor.
To add to this, she might think you are hers and she is telling him that both the bed and you are her possessions. You need to step up and kick her off the bed when she acts that way. Also, try having him walk around the house on a leash tied to his waist. When he moves she has to move, she will quickly understand that she needs to listen to him. One more thing, both of you are the boss so if you are talking to her like a person you need to stop. Communication should be mainly non verbal and no negotiating.0 -
ALL of my friends dogs started acting strangely protective when they got pregnant...0

Communication should be mainly non verbal
Not being snarky but how do you have non-verbal communication with an animal?
Granted my dog knows what I'm thinking by a look or a gesture but they also need to understand commands and intonations of your voice. He knows the difference when he's playing and I say "ow" meaning stop chewing on me and "OW!" meaning you bit down too hard just by the way I say it just as he knows when he's in trouble by the tone I use when I speak to him.
I'm just trying to understand how one can have an animal and not be vocal with/to them.0 -
You sound like you have a good plan in order...also she is claiming you as hers. So she is letting him know that you are included in her territory..I have a dog that is very similar in her aggression, a chihuahua..I just don't have a boyfriend or anything. She shows the aggression towards my heavy handed nephews when they act aggressive towards my daughters...so basically protecting my daughters..If they come in she may bark but when they sit down..she is no longer aggressive if they behave mildly. They can be playful, but if they show aggression she does too.0

It is clear that your husband is possessed by demons. Dogs are sensitive to these things.
Was gonna say ..have you thought of an exorcism?:indifferent:0 -
Should i be the one to get on to her or should he or both? I like the leash idea def going to do that for sure.
As for the preggers thing I am sadly probably not, though that would be something.
My husband play rough a lot on the floor and she just looks at us like we need to settle down grunts and walks off. No i think that nailed it about the bed thing. I probably should have crate trained her from the start0 -

this is what I meant by signs of aggression that are not alarming or concerning. you may think she is being loving, but really she is just trying to tell you that you are HER alpha and not the other way around. unfortunately dogs are not babies, they do need to be put in their place as beta.0 -
I would suggest having the vet give her a once over, just to make sure she isn't changing her behavior because of a physical condition (i.e. a brain tumor, dementia, etc...). If the dr rules out a physical cause, ask for a referal to an animal behavioral specialist. Then, work towards the solution on how to fix the behavior problems. Good luck!0

You guys are awesome I think this all combined will solve the problem. thanks very much for the help0
