Tracking measurements on MFP?

The measurement tracking never seems to work properly or is it just me?? I have it set to metric units but it seems to default to imperial and then my charts look all wonky! and today there are no other measurements just a straight line. Help! I don't have them recorded anywhere else so hope they aren't lost forever.
