Wearing Polar FT4 Heart Rate/ Calorie monitor all day?

Hi,

I have a polar ft4 heart rate monitor and calorie calculator and was winding if anyone has tried wearing it all day to see how many calories they burnt doing regular day to day tasks such as going to work etc?

Are they meant to be able to do this or just calculate based on you workouts/ shorter amounts of time?

I can't find any info on the website saying its meant to do this and I can't find and that specifically says its not...just turn it on when you start your activity and off after?

    Heart rate monitors only provide useful feedback for steady state cardio and are not intended to be worn all day. It sounds like you want to look into something like a FitBit (haven't used one but have seen other threads about them)

    As stated they are not meant for all day wear and the calorie estimation will be much higher than the actual calories you would have burned. Stick to using it for what it was designed for, steady state cardio.

    that's kind of comparing apples and oranges...I have both a fitbit AND a HRM.

    the fitbit calculates TDEE with your stats such as height, weight, gender, distance walked, steps climbed. it does NOT use HR at all. My HRM will register like 900 calories for a 90 minute workout, and my fitbit will only give me like 400 calories because I don't walk as far when I am lifting.
