water makes me hungry

I've seen posts on this board like this without any conclusive answers. When I drink the recommended amount of daily water (between 64 oz and half your body weight depending on where you look) it makes me really hungry. When I drink to thirst (usually a little less then 64 depending on exercise which might make it more) this doesn't happen to me. Can anyone give me some insight as to why this could be happening? Should I just drink less water?
