Best books for nutrition and the body

Hi guys

Doing my Christmas list and my exciting presents I want are two books:

I want the best book I can find on nutrition. I don't want a reference guide but a good read for the laymen on how all this works!

And exactly the same but for the body and how it all works (i.e muscles, organs and how working and looking different areas helps etc)

This is all from a fitness point of view but I want help so when I'm reading up on forums, blogs, books etc I have more of an idea of what people are on about! Also it will help me draw my own conclusions

Thanks in advance

  • Gustaff - yeah should be helpful and interesting

TO EXPAND: The body book is more of a laymans guide to how our body works from a health perspective - not how every mm of body works! But how muscles, organs etc work when healthy and don't when not etc

I like Anita Bean's books, there is one called the Complete Guide to Sports Nutrition which I thought was really good, back to basics book :)

I like Covert Bailey's "Smart Exercise"--I am rereading it now. He is a nutritionist with a biochemistry degree from MIT and has written several books, including "fit or fat". I "discovered" him on a PBS special in the 1990's. His books are well written and factual.
  • Thanks everyone - great stuff and I'm looking into all of them

    Thanks for all your input
