Consuming All Calories per day - question

Hey everyone!

I'm new to MFP, todays my first day! I'm not new to dieting, healthy eating, weight watchers, YOU NAME IT! haha

But I had a question about the recommended amount of calories for the day. Mine is around 1600, it seems like a lot and I am projecting my day (I usually eat the same things so I know what I'll have) and am only at half of that.

Do you all reach around the recommended amount or are way lower? I'd imagine being half of it isn't a good thing and could be my issue with trying to lose weight in the first place.

Just wanted some feedback. THANK YOU in advance :-)

-Ashley

Depending on your height, weight, activity level and how much you want to lose your daily calorie intake my fluctuate. 1600 for many women (again, many diff factors) is close to maintenance. If you want to lose, you need to reduce that number. Use the calculator above and find your BMR and eat (NET) at least that amount.

You need to eat obvivously to survive. But eating too little can cause binges which will your body to 'store' food and hinder your weight loss. If you are consistent with a low calorie diet then you will lose, but its not the healthiest way to lose and may be hard to maintain for a long period of time.

If you need to add calories find healthy choices to 'fill' your diary.

Nuts, Avocado, coconut oil, peanut butter, cheese, peperoni, etc

It takes some time to figure out where your maintenance is. I would eat at the 1600 cal level for a couple of weeks and see if that works for you. MFP already calculates out the deficit for you so if you are perfectly average you will lose your weekly goal eating at that level. Because very few people are actually average it will take some time to figure out what works for you.

Edit: If you have been eating at 800 cals for a while you may have caused your body to slow its metabolic rate so MFP calculation may be off.
