Atkin's Diet and the holidays.

I'm starting the Atkin's diet today and I know all the 'rules' and such to what I can and cannot not eat in Phase 1:Induction. BUT, my big question is what happens around the holidays time? Thanksgiving (for us Americans) is in less than 2 weeks and that will most likely only put me in Phase 2: OWL. My question is has anyone done the Atkin's diet (Phase 1/2) in the past during the holidays like Thanksgiving? If so, what did you eat and what did you not eat? Nothing rude please. Thanks ahead of time. x
*Before anyone asks because they're is always one person, lol, but my doctor/OBGYN told me to do the first couple of Phases to jump start my weight loss (she also diagnosed me with PCOS). So I'm 'approved' to do it.

Turkey, broccoli (or green beans), salad. Skip the potatoes, green bean casseroles and bread. Of course, skip the pies, unless you make your own LC pumpkin pie. You can go to pinterest and search on KETO and find tons of recipes.
My family always has a shrimp tray and veggie appetizer.. I fill up on it.0 -
I followed an Atkins plan for years off and on, and to this day it's how I eat 70-80% of the time (my body is adapted and feels amazing eating this way).
I always ate whatever I wanted for Thanksgiving. But keep in mind that there are TONS of low carb friendly desserts that taste amazing and won't clash with your goals. Do yourself a big favor; look up well reviewed recipes and make a couple desserts. That will go a LONG way toward helping you. Also it might help if you made these without telling your family that they're low carb. You can often fool people into thinking they're eating "regular" desserts and dishes that are low in carb, and sometimes they like them more than their typical stuff. There are so, so, so many options. You could do a full Thanksgiving spread that tastes traditional, with nothing but low and lower carb offerings.
Two two Christmases ago I had a goal to LOSE weight during the Christmas holiday season ( a huge challenge for me because I'm a big Christmas nut). I was strict low carb for everyday but Christmas and Christmas eve. Two crucial foods helped me stay on track during the season, but still feel like I was enjoying the tastes of the holiday:
- DaVinci sugar free syrups were a God send. Truly. They come in traditional holiday flavors, like Gingerbread, Peppermint, Pumpkin, and Brown Sugar, are nearly calorie free, and last forever. I can not tell you how much these syrups helped me stick to my goals without feeling deprived. I'd just add them to cups of coffee, drizzle over sugar free cream cheese desserts, mix into plain yogurt or cool whip, pour over nuts, use in my homemade sugar free eggnog, sweeten canned pumpkin with, the list goes on. I felt like I could enjoy all the flavors I love at Christmas time, and stay right on target doing so.
- Canned Pumpkin. There is so, so much you can do with it. It's pretty low in calories and carbs, but can be dressed up beautifully with some many different seasonings and additives.
And yes, I did lose.0 -
