I found an elliptical on craigslist for 75 dollars... when i looked up reviews for it it got 4 out of 5 stars but it is a discontinued machine and she said it is 4 years old.... she also told me that it was used sporadically, sometimes a couple of times per week but often not for months at a time. Not sure if I should go for it or not, don't want to waste money.

Well, they don't expire after a certain date. If it still works, and it's cheap, why not get it? You can always Craigslist is again if you don't like it.

As with any mechanical equipment it will depend on how much use it has had and how well it has been looked after. If it has hardly been used it will be as good as new, if it has been heavily used its probably junk

Some of them have a computer display that shows their total 'mileage', if you dig into the settings. I have a 10 year old treadmill that's got maybe 500 miles on it that's supposed to be good for 2000ish.

I think I'd be worried more about how good of a machine it is than its age. Quality varies a lot. Can you find out the manufacturer and read up on it?

So I'm going to be the Debbie Downer here - $75 is a total steal for a functioning elliptical - I'd be worried about any piece of equipment that is selling for way below a price it should be able to fetch.

Darn it that is a good price! Do you live with or are you a handy person?

That was kind of my point about quality. You can get a brand new elliptical for $99 at Sears but it's going to suck. But sometimes someone's got a really nice piece of equipment they just want to quit shaming them and are letting it go for a song. That's how I got my $2400 treadmill for $375, with 30 miles on it.
