I found this site on my android phone. I simply wanted to count and calculate calories, but this does so much more! I've been going to a gym for about a year and have lost about 40lbs in that time. I was diagnosed diabetic (type II) a couple of years ago. I began taking medication and tracking my blood sugar levels then. I tried to fool myself into thinking I could just "watch my diet" and this would be fixed but my cholesterol went up and so did my blood pressure. I began feeling tired all the time and was about as active as a slug!
I have two small children, one of which spent several weeks in an intensive care unit after birth. I began to think about being around for those kids. All the while I was hearing radio commercials for a local gym with a membership fee of $10 a month! The reasons to start getting serious kept mounting while excuses were running out.
Finally I did it! I joined that gym, started eating whole grains and counting calories. I set my weight loss goal for 5lbs at a time with no time limit. The logic here being, losing at my own pace means learning to live differently and adjusting my lifestyle accordingly. This all sounds cliche I'm sure but, this has worked for me so far. Now I think about what I'm eating before I eat it and how it will affect my progress and the work I've accomplished. I still have times when I "blow" my diet. I just realize that I'm human and falling down is part of learning to walk ( that actually sunk in watching my kids learn to walk).
The idea is to set small goals, make gradual changes, experiment, see "failures" as lessons and, ultimately, live another day. I'm sure this online community will be a great help and I hope I contribute to others' success as well.
